Any thread closes automatically after 14 days. It shouldn't be last view, that wouldn't really work. Threads close because of inactivity, meaning that now one wanted to respond. I would like it that if after a mod closed a thread that there was a message explaining why it was closed.
Those are some good ideas, especially the one about applying to become 'Gifted'. If people aren't accepted they probably would want to know why so they can change and have a better chance the next time!
But, although they are good ideas, I'm sure nobody here wants to give the mods more work.

If threads are automatically closed after '10 days' it must be triggered by something other than 'date last post added'.... perhaps days since last accessed (i.e. read by someone). However, it should be farily easy to modify the script which closes the thread to add a clsoing post "Closed - No activity for 10 days'.
Very valid point, but I question if in the long term they may actually be creating themselves more work. Consider the following example:
A member who wants to become Gifted but is rejected. Although they keep making 'non fluff' posts the posts they make are in the wrong forums.
Every two months they reapply and get rejected.
Each time they apply a moderator has to look up when they last applied, then review each and every post the member has made since their last application and count up those which meet the requirements for 'good posts'.
After a while the member starts getting upset not understanding why they are 'obviously' being reejected and start sending PMs to various moderators and admins asking why.
Finally the member gives up and leaves WI in favour of another WebKinz site.
Considering the time it must take to review each application, how much time would be added by sending our a standard 'form letter' explaing the reason versus reviewing the same applicant again, and again, and again... not to mention the confused state the member is left in.
Actually it is 14 days since the last post was added. While they might be able to add the message, it could spam. And we are not allowed to "Bump" meaning to keep the thread open if it's about to close. Then you could just look at your thread and keep it open? The forum would be spammed. There would be threads from 2008 still open, but without posts. It just wouldn't work.
I had a Thread closed a while ago. I simply PM'd a Mod (Dixie) and she quickly told me it was a duplicate Thread. Could it get any better than that? I honestly do NOT need anything written to me. I have never applied to the GE Program, perhaps I may feel differently if I hadn't received anything saying Yes OR No... I am not versed enough in that arena - I am not gifted (although my yDD thinks I am )
For what its worth; the Mods + Admins are not just performing 'paper work' tasks, they are also dealing with psycho babble issues too! Could you imagine your reprieve or vacation being a 'working' one?!
