the same exact thing happened to me! i kept re applying because i thought i had improved or maybe this time they had room for me. I really want to be accepted into the GE which is why i kept applying.

There used to be an automatic PM that notified when a post was changed or deleted by a staff member. However, that service had to be removed because there was just too many of them and they rapidly filled our server capacity. WI is still free, after all.

I think this is a good idea, with the exception of the 14 day closing. You said that it should be closed 14 days after the last viewing; you can still view the thread even two years after it was closed.

I always try to PM the staff member who moderates the section to see why a thread of mine was closed. Some of the time I get a response, some of the time I do not.

Thank you to JacksMom and Jennielou for taking the time to read and reply to the thread.

I've had fairly good luck with the moderators on WI. They've gotten material for me out of closed threads when asked, and helped me with numerous difficulties. They even put up with my continual requests to update the title of my house thread, and they do so with grace and applomb.

That said...

I miss the "Moderator actions panel" that we used to have in User CP. It was so informative. It would tell me where my threads were moved, who they were moved by, etc. (One thread of mine got moved three times in two hours by different mods before it got moved back to its original location. This offered me much amusement.)

It also informed me of my change in status to Gifted. I don't know if it informed people of whether their application was rejected because I was accepted to Gifted Status before WI instituted the Trainee program.

I do think that in the case of GT applications, it would be beneficial to have a note in the User CP section that only moderators, Admin and the individual user could access.

To save time, perhaps it could have check boxes in the case of rejections that Mods could check off:

Your application was rejected because:
( ) There were too many fluff posts
( ) You only posted in a few forums. Spread out your wisdom and helpfulness among the other forums of WI! Answer questions, welcome new members, wish someone happy birthday!
( ) You came so close. Please keep being helpful and apply again. We just had too many applicants this time.
( ) You broke forum rules in the last month
( X) You are even more long-winded than Hmm. Our eyes crossed while reading the text in your posts.

I think that a check box system would save moderator time in the long run because it would answer user questions about what is happening with their application.

Thanks for considering my ideas,
Hmm

That number does not count those that are banned or deleted from the site. As for inactivity, I don't have access to that information -- but I can tell you that it's very common for there to be hundreds or even thousands of people on the site at any given time.

I think this would be an excellent idea!!! It would be simple and easy for mods and admins, yet very helpful to us to see where we went wrong and what we can do to fix our posts so we have a better chance of becoming a GT! Great Idea!!!

I just checked and there are 42,993 members with 0 posts, and another few thousand with 1.

I see that many of you are frustrated with how some things may work. In reality, we are all looking for the same thing -- a system which makes it easy for members to access information that the staff brings forward to them. Its not always as simple as we would all like, and sometimes it can just come down to time. I know that is something we don't want to always hear, but its just reality for us all.

However, I know we all make an effort to answer any questions we may receive. Sometimes we do loose track of which ones we have replied to or need to! I know I have many times needed to look up an answer and got pulled away to look at something else. If that is the case, asking again in a few days is not a bad thing.

Some things suggested we have had, and they were wonderful (I also loved the notification system) but due to the size and growth of WI it is just not available to us anymore. And the pros and cons of things and systems is something we have to weigh day to day, and even hour to hour.

Yes, sometimes we leave a note to why the thread was closed. Other times we do so privately. It depends on the situation, but our inboxes are always open to your questions. I think this was mentioned by Jennielou, but I want to make sure it is brought up for you all. The note on the thread or privately... That is a judgement call we make from thread to thread, issue to issue. Not every issue can be solved with a form letter either, and from a purely personal stand point -- I receive so many automated calls and form letters, I love to have a little personality and help from a person once and awhile!

Please take away this, if not anything else: We are here to help, we want to help and spend many hours of our free time at home to help you. But we can't do that without knowing there is an issue or problem as well, if you have a question -- please do not ever hesitate to ask someone. At times, we may not realize you have further questions that what we have out lined, or what has been put forward.

We do what we can, when we can. Not everything is possible, but we like to think we are all working together (staff and members) to make things as easy as possible, sometimes that just means asking a question or two as well.
