I just want to state that when this virus popped up for me, I was on a homeschooling website. I read a blog when I was trying to research this virus and how to remove it that someone else picked it up searching for dog food. I do not understand viruses and how they work, but it seems to me that this particular virus is in many places. I went to dell because when I tried to read what they said to do to get rid of it, it gave me a headache. I haven't programmed anything but TV and VCR's in 20 years and that was way too complicated for me.
thank you justin for communicating to us.............. that helps a lot because in the past this subject was never allowed to be spoken of for very long...................... and i am happy to know you have communicated as best you can with the ad people..................... it has to be very near impossible to narrow the solution down, with so many people WANTING to harm computers..................... i have continied seeing the busy graphic ads and hear the wii one many times today, but i dont know how to upload any screeshot i might tke ............. and i know without seeing it it is not much help to you.............. but thank you so much for keeping the communication open with us............. i hear so many different opinions about not putting too many virus/malware/spyware programs on ones computer because that causes problems too, so this situation on wi is scary for many of us who dont know what to do about it. i know getting the insider insider wont solve the problem either............... it jsut makes me so sad that malicious people are out there doing this......... and making all of us, and you justin, tryi to keep ahead of them. which we neverf seem to be able to do.................... anything else we can do to help you here justin, please tell us........................
Thsi also happened to me. It totally freaks me out and takes up time as I run total scans on my computer-both for viruses and then a second scan for sypware, etc. even though my security software does scan for these issues. I, too, know it came from WI as this is not the first time it has happened while on this site. I thought this issue was being looked into and fixed by Justin. With that idea in mind, I was really feeling insecure when it happened again.
I did not install this virus. My mouse is wonky - I'm just too lazy to fix it. While scrolling down the WI forum, I accidentally clicked on an ad. Firefox slowed to a crawl and an window popped up with a .PDF file name. It disappeared so quickly, I couldn't get anything else from it except .PDF. Within minutes Spyware Protect 2009 was installed on my computer. So technically I did not install this program, it came from an accidental click on an ad.
Can you tell me which ad it was?? That would really help. As far as the serve-banners domain, you can check it with google to see why it is listed.
I'm sorry, but I didn't catch the ad - I was using the scrolling button on my mouse and when I'm not careful, it sticks and acts as if I clicked it. It's my fault for scrolling so close the the right side with the ads. But because I was going so fast, I didn't see which I clicked on. I clicked out of WI once I realized what happened and started running my anti-virus software so I still didn't get which one it was, I'm sorry!!
I appreciate you keeping tabs on this. I, for one, know how hard you work and that this is NOT your fault and that you do all you can. I believe that a lot of people just simply don't understand how viruses, spyware and malware work. Which is unfortunate because those are usually the people who have a ton of junk on their computer and don't realize it.
oh no. My dad uses firefox, i guess he is the smart one.
what i hate about firefox is that it showss ALLL of your history. say i was doing rseand it was a bad site, then i would get punished one way or another.
But I would rather that then havig my WHOLE compter off!!
