Now don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind having a country flag down in the corner of my posts, but I just want to give something of a debate here.

One of the main reasons posted for the want of the flags would be to help people in the GE know who they were trading with and how long they may have to wait for a reply.
Consider this:

If I am trading with someone and see the US flag by their gender symbol (I am from the US as well), then it would seem that we should be in relatively similar times, right?
Well, the United States is divided into 9 different time zones itself: Atlantic Standard Time (AST), Eastern Standard Time (EST), Central Standard Time (CST), Mountain Standard Time (MST), Pacific Standard Time (PST), Alaskan Standard Time (AKST), Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time (HST), Samoa standard time, and Chamorro Standard Time.
At any given moment, I may have more than a 7 hour time difference with a trader if we both live in the United States.

Let's say I'm trading with someone from Canada. Just because we have two different flags, doesn't mean our time zones are different. Canada is split into 6 time zones, 5 of which the US share with the country. I might get some preconceived notions about someone if I saw their Canadian flag; I could go out of my way to give them extra time on a trade even when we could both be living in the EST Zone.

Now if someone had, for example, an Australian flag, then it may be important to have the flags up, but how often does that happen? If I had to guess, I would say that probably over 99% of WI users are from the US or Canada.

Again, I just want you to take this into consideration. I think it is important to know what you are dealing with when you bring up an interesting idea such as this one.

BTW, you could also get more technical by bringing up Daylight Savings Time and how some states don't use it (like parts of Arizona, Alaska, and Hawaii), to make the time differences even more confusing, but I won't go there.

Originally i was going to suggest for Wi to have provice and state flags , an austrllian flag , an U.K flag and so on. So it would be more specific for us north americans because i do realize we make up most of Wi.
However i didnt post that because i thought people would instantly not agree becuae its getting to personal. Which i think it isnt.
Idk i just thought it would be a cool idea.

Default Re: UPDATE! Provine/Territory , State Flags ? What do you think about that ?

The flag thing would be neat-o, but, I don't see why we need it. Like, monkeecj brought up, there's tons of different time zones. But, neat idea!

It is true that most people would not willingly give away the state/province they live in to everyone whenever they post. Even I wouldn't feel comfortable with anyone who happens to see my post know what state I live in.
Although, Canadians would have the better deal, because provinces are generally much larger than states (unless you're comparing Nova Scotia and Alaska ).

So sadly, that's where the idea just doesn't function well anymore.

Maybe there is another way to be able to do this. I think we have come to the conclusion that country flags would generally be obsolete, and state/province flags would give away too much personal information.

Perhaps if you think about it more, you will be able to come up with a clever solution.

Well, according to our traffic statistics, 96% are from the US or Canada, but that was a good estimate!
