I think it is really unfair that WI won't allow duplicates of clubs! I know people say their club is better, and it hurts feelings, but it shouldn't. It's a club. Big deal.
I think it is perfectly acceptable to have duplicates of clubs. That way, there won't be just one person who controls everything in that subject. It's not fair to other members who want to make a club of their own, and are excited about it, only to find out that they can't make the club becasue somebody else has one like it. That crushes spirits! Especially to our younger members.
I was happily making an Ice Skaters Club and when I finished someone posted, "no duplicates", and a link to the other club. It was called Figure Skaters Club and it was way different from mine. Then, a million other people started bombarding me, telling me it wasnt allowed, telling mods to close it. It broke my heart that I put hard work into my club only to have it closed. I have seen this happed to other clubs too, some posted by members who had just joined and had no idea. I think this cruel behavior should be stopped! It's a free country, right?
Please, allow duplicates of clubs! It is for the happiness and freedom of all WI members.
Thanks for letting me voice my opinion.

Yes, but listen to this:

While it is a free country, this is a board that is owned by Justin and Wendy.
That being said, the rule is not there to hurt any feelings or squash anyone's enthusiasm. I would like to suggest to those that regularly browse the club area and post about duplicate threads allow the moderators to deal with it...that way theres less of a chance of hurt feelings as we generally will deal with it via pm.
As for your opinion about there being more than one club, I think you have to approach this from different perspectives.
Imagine if you had an ice skaters club...all was going well...then someone else came along and started a new one. You hadn't posted to yours in a few days and it dropped down the list. Meanwhile the other one took off and started getting more posts. I'm not sure you would appreciate it.
Then theres always our perspective of trying to keep the board clean. If we allowed more than one club on one subject, we'd have endless pages of clubs. Consequently, all clubs would have just a few members because everyone would start their own.
All of that being said, no clubs can be exclusive..meaning, ALL members have to feel free to join. Also, the thread owners are responsible for their clubs, so, if its not going well, please let a mod or admin know.
I would also like to suggest that if anyone has an idea for a club, before you get started on it, you:
A. Read the rules. That would prevent a lot of this issue right off the bat.
B. You pm COWS or Gingerly to discuss what kind of club you'd like to start and get their thumbs up first.
