I hadn't realized that it was only allowed on the GE so that's good information. However, on the GE it is sometimes necessary. I trade on other threads but don't get much activity on mine. If I don't bump it up, it automatically closes and I can't update my list of items.
If you want to keep your thread near the top, the best way to do it is to keep it "alive". Keep adding new and interesting tidbits to it. Make it someplace where people WANT to come to see what's new. Add new data, new ideas, post alternate views to make people think.
If you're writing a story, you can post it in chapters or installments. Harry Potter ring a bell?
Professional writers spend a lot of time revising, cleaning up, clarifying, sharpening, editing and re-editing their stories to make them better each time they touch it. You can follow their example.
If you just write "bump" it makes you seem desperate and not very creative. Be creative and it will be more interesting for all of us!
Don't forget to create a fascinating title for your thread. Not over-the-top, just something that gives a glimpse or vision of what you are presenting. Remember how the title of a book made you pick it up to see what's inside? Same idea applies here.
i'm not quite sure i get what your saying. bumping isn't always bad. see, just this last week when i had computer restriction and couldn't post on my story in the Creative Writing section, i asked my brother to get on and bump it once a day, so it wouldn't close before i could add more.
- Make something for a friend. For example, if you're on a chat thread, say "Hey! Look what I made!" If people seem interested, you can give them your shop links.
I'd like to point out that that's actually rude, to do that. Just go In front of EVERYONE and say "Hey, I made this for you, my BESTEST FRIEND." However, If your referring to "Oh, hey, I made this, want to see more? *Link*" But thats advertising.
And also, I think people should wait until the 2nd or 3rd page then say "Bump." But thats the only way they CAN bump, give them a break. If WI had a "Recent posts" set up, with your 10 recent most recent bumped threads, you could hit this "Bump" button and not have to say like "BUMP" on a thread. get It?
