Come on people! As long as u can read it, itz fahne! (fine FYI!!!!!!) Its just a faster way of typing something! theres no prob with it! how else r u gnna get 1st post on the DCT? Lol. Even the Mods and Admins talk in text speak! I saw mom2hnemi speak like tht AND COWS4YOU! If u cant read it, then simply PM the person and tell them. sometimes it can get outta control like

"yo wat up. omg u c da new dress i got yesterday."

or

"dat place is kool! itz the best!" tht can b disturbing but i think the other way is wayyyy to slow!!! so im fine with the way i type and u guys should too!!!!

TXT SPEAKERS UNITE!!!

MarchingWebkinz, it's just a suggestion, and it's not going to become a rule, I can tell you that We all have different opinions, and I like to see what others think. Thank you for posting!

Oh, and this is just a SUGGESTION, I'm not saying every one has to write out sentences and use proper grammar, English, etc. I'm sorry if his has offended you :-/

I think it's called 'common sense' to type proper. It's not just nice, it's easy to read for others of different parts of the world that don't understand much English as it is; why make it 10 times harder? Even for those that do speak English, it's sometimes hard and it can be rude!!
Plus, it usually means you're very mature and neat if you write proper. If you don't, nobody understands what you're saying and they can think that you don't care! And, it's Bologna if you say 'I'm too lazy' or 'it takes too long' because guess what! If you go to school, you have to talk right and write right! You can't hand in a paper saying 'My teacha rulez da skool!'
You should be able to take the time to spell things correctly.

I don't have a problem with text talk (because I text a lot and can uncode it), but run-on sentences are a PAIN! Rep!

Thank you!
It really gets on my nerves when I have to decode a page of slang/text talk.....
But every now and then, I'll use, which I think is ok.

Thanks for the great post. I think the run ons are the worst. I try to figure it out, but eventually I have to stop, it just gets way too confusing!

Andrew, Lyssa, and Lilypad, thank you for your input!

Lyssa- I agree with you 100%. When writing essays, do you substitute "you" for "u" or "are" for "r"? I also agree that it makes it harder for not only people fluent in English, but for people with English as their second language. It also IS more polite to type it out.

Andrew and Lilypad, agreed!

I also think that if a child is posting and learning to use a keyboard and makes a few mistakes "oh well" let them and enjoy the reading and guessing .

Good points !!!!
I think you have a point there I know how younger kids might not know how to use proper grammar or sentences, it would be good practice for them because when they grow older, it'll be like second nature

I agree, posts are much easier to read when proper English is used. I have to say, I have a really tough time trying to read some posts because they either talk in chat speak or have so many misspelled words and missing punctuation. I usually just give up on reading them and move on. It's a hassle to have to sit there and try to decipher what something that isn't properly typed says. This thread will be very helpful for a lot of people!! Every time I see improper grammar, I feel the need to correct it. [rep to you!]

I agree with you 100%. WI is so popular now and we have members all over the world. And I am quite certain that there are a lot of members whose first language is not English. (In fact, I am one of them.) English is a VERY complicated language to begin with, and it would be even more complicated and harder to be understood with those TEXT talks. If it is hard for the native English speakers to understand already, imagine how hard it would be for the non-native WI members!

I think TEXT talking among your friends for fun is fine, but you should really use proper English when you are posting your opinion on a public forum like WI so that people can clearly understand what you are trying to say.
Hi Tokyo Rose!

This is one of the reasons I believe "text talk" shouldn't be in the open forum. I know some people think it's faster and easier, but it would be considerate if they made it so others could actually read it

Thank you!
