Great Tips, thanks for the reminder to us all!
Here is how my family spends Halloween.
I live in a rural area, and trick or treaters are non-existent. For the past 10 years the whole family attends a halloween party, given by a wonderful friend and her husband. They have a big inflatable haunted house that you can go through, a "jumping" thing for the young ones, and then a "cake walk". For those of you who haven't heard of a "cake walk" it is really fun. She gets chalk and draws boxes on the patio, then numbers each box. Then puts those same numbers on paper, then into a plastic pumpkin. If you would like to participate you bring a "sweet" item, (cake, cupcakes, brownies, etc.) Then everyone lines up, and the music starts. When the music stops she draws a number from the pumpkin. (Similar to musical chairs, without the chairs.) If you are standing on that number, you visit the "sweet" table and get to choose a prize. This continues until all "sweets" are gone. Then her husband, takes all on a hayride. My grandchildren love the festivities. All of us adults bring a covered dish for all to snack on.
It is a wonderful way to spend a friendly, safe and fun-filled Halloween.
