I do agree. After all, they'll 'learn their lesson' once they see that it's been moved, right? No need to point it out to them ourselves. We have moderators for a reason, we don't need to try and do their job for them.
I think it all depends on how you approach it. I always try to actually respond to the thread and not just tell the person it is in the wrong spot. And also, I will never tell them it is in the wrong section if someone else already did. If the person gets 10 responses that only say the thread is in the wrong spot then sure they will feel bad. But if one person says
"Great idea, I would really like to see that feature also. Oh, and by the way, this should probably be in the _________ section, but don't worry I'm sure a mod will be along shortly and move it for you."
then the person probably won't feel too bad about being told.
I wouldn't mind but I can understand why someone would be upset. Usually the first four or five posts are usually people telling the poster that it is in the wrong place. Perhaps if one person said it and flagged the post that would be fine.
I personally do not think it is meant for people to "learn" lessons on how to "do it right". There really is no wrong or right.
Sometimes it is very confusing where to put a post because it covers different or multiple issues.
There are mods who look for posts that are misplaced and move them for us to avoid confusing and disorganized threads.
It must be a difficult job for the mods, and I personally am grateful for them for doing so.
I am also thankful when I find my post placed in a proper thread by a mod..... not embarrassed!!!
If you find yours re--placed.....Just thank a mod!
I have been looking through some threads and I noticed that it was in the wrong place (a mod moved it, but it was still in the original posting spot and it said "Moved" by it. I read it, and someone was like, "I like this, but it should go in the _________ section". I think if it should be moved, just red flag it instead of taking a chance of embarrassing someone.
Thanks for reading this!
I agree! Great thread!
To one person, they could have been told that there thread was in the wrong section, and just say "Whatever." And just wait for it to be moved. But to another person, they might be embarrassed because they were told right in the Open Forum. I personally wouldn't be THAT embarrassed, but I wouldn't be embarrassed at all if the person sent me a PM that said:"Your thread is in the wrong section," Because I would be the only to read that.
Once again,great thread!
