Default Suggestion when closing threads

Hello,

In this section, I often see threads that I agree with, only to have them, be closed a few days later without a post from a staff member to as why it was closed. Would there be a way for staff members to post before closing the thread so that other members can see why the idea would/wouldn't work?

TIA,

Canes

I agree. If we don't know what rule we broke, how are we going to not break it later?

Hi! A thread might be closed for many reasons. If it's breaking the rules, it will be deleted and you'll automatically receive a PM telling you why. Many times a staff member will respond to the thread and after, you'll just have days of people saying "I agree". This usually means the thread has run it's course and time to make room for new ones. Other times we just close them simply because it's a topic that has been brought up many times and it's a duplicate. No use "bumping" a thread that should be let go by posting on it. If one of your threads closes and you're not sure why, just PM any staff member and we'll help you figure it out.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. But, I was actually talking about other members threads, where we would not receive an automated PM. Most of the ideas I see are unique, and then get closed without a statement from a staff member. I understand what you are saying about "I agree", but I am fine with a staff member closing a thread as long as they make a post saying why it is being closed I think this would reduce confusion, and in the future, reduce duplicate threads because members see why threads were closed.

If a thread closes because of violations, we won't know how to fix it. Agreed.

Most of the time the thread owner requests to have their thread closed and so we close it; thus why no post from staff on the reason it was closed

Well the thread owner would have received an auto PM as they are the owner of the thread...if you feel that strongly about the topic of the thread and are curious about it's closure or deletion...you could always PM the thread owner and ask them...that should take care of your concerns quite easily...since most are auto closed do to inactivity and some are at the thread owners request...all of which the thread owner would be aware of the reason for...
