I thought of this idea while looking at the Friends section of my profile, and I think it would be easier if it would show the people who are online first, and then the people that are offline. Then, you wouldn't have to search for your friends that are online. (It would definitely be easier for people who have a lot of friends! )
Well, at the bottom of the page of the WI insider forum homepage, they have a "Who's Online" section. The usernames that are your friends are marked with a +. It's hard to catch, but if you look at it, you can see which of your friends are online.
It might be a tad easier, but I'm alright with the old way.
There's actually an even easier way than how TheLovelyLife suggested. Go to "Quick Links" in the banner above, & click "Open Contacts Popup". That will show you only the users on your friends list who are online at the time.
I like the idea though, so I'll give you rep for it.
