Default Suggestion - PM Users When Their Thread is Closed

Here's a suggestion: I think that when a moderator chooses to close a thread, he or she should be required to send a PM to the originator of the thread explaining why it was closed. Perhaps that person is left wondering why their thread was closed; he or she thinks, "I've broken no rules, and it seemed like a friendly and educational discussion was going on, and now suddenly my thread has been closed. I wish someone would explain why!" And since there is no way of knowing WHICH moderator closed the thread, that person has no idea who to contact to ask the reasoning.

It would be a nice courtesy to users of the forum.

Default Re: Suggestion - PM Users When Their Thread is Closed

Justin experimented with programming that did that a while back. It sent a PM whenever a member of the staff deleted or edited a post or thread. However, it caused major problems with the site, causing pages to hang up every time any member of the site edited any post, so he had to get rid of it.

He's been on the look out for a notification system that won't crash the site, but hasn't found one yet.
