Default Suggestion about Multiple Threads

Hi there!

I'm sure you all know about the issue with multiple threads about being nice to everyone and all that. I'm on the fence with it because I know some of us need the reminders, BUT there have been a lot of threads on the same subject lately. It's common sense to be nice to everyone, for example. I'm not trying to go against those who have created those threads because I know a lot of effort have been put into them and they have a good intention most of the time. However, if you look back a few pages of this forum, you'll see that almost every one has a thread about courtesy and respect.

I have nothing against that but it's common sense to treat others with courtesy and respect. If you ever see something that doesn't belong, as always, report it. So what I'm suggesting here is to use the "Search Forum" tool and search a keyword BEFORE making a thread and make sure that there hasn't been a thread on the topic you want to write about that has been created recently. Trust me, it's not a lot of work.

As always, comments/suggestions/criticism/opinions are welcome.

That is a very good reminder DL. I have seen much of this, and I think it needs to stop (:

I think that they also need to improve the search function just a tad bit though

Yea but what if like what happened to me, the results has 1,000 pages, do we have to read them ALL? XD but that makes sense, it takes up space where a more usleful helpful thread could be, and people have to look through all these duplicates to get to the new threads.

I have noticed a major spark in "respect" and "helpful tips" threads. While these threads are sometimes needed reminders for some members, I agree with you that its common sense to know that it isn't allowed. I think of WI as a second home for me; I would not be allowed to talk rudely to a member of my family, why would it be allowed here?

Great suggustion, DL (as usual )

I wouldn't check every single thread ever created in this forum. If the suggustion your wanting to make hasn't been posted in the last 5 or so pages, I would say go ahead and refresh the subject.

I totally agree with you
People just make thread after thread on the same subject
And most of it is common sense like "Don't say your adress or last name on the internet"
or "Be nice to everyone"
I know they have good intentions, but we don't need 14 threads on the same subject
Thanks for bringing this up DL ( :

I agree. You shouldn't make a fuss about another person making a thread like you already, but you should also check to make sure you weren't copying anyone either.

I agree. There are way too many threads about the same thing over and over again. We need to try to bring variety to the forum instead of constantly restating the same things that people should already know even if they don't view the forum. Being respectful is something that you need in real life and everywhere, so it shouldn't need to be said multiple times here.

Thanks, and I agree. It could narrow it down to just this section though.

No, you don't have to read them all Just check to see if there are any recent threads and those will be at the top.

Exactly! As always, the Golden Rule- treat others the way you want to be treated. And that's a great suggestion about the last 5 pages! Sometimes threads even just 1 or 2 pages back are still fresh in our minds.

I agree I've seen a lot of "be nice" threads and threads like that. I think they're nice, but I think we get the picture.

Thanks, Jenny!

That's what I thought. If people check out the Open Mike section, there's already a sticky by larkrose saying no personal information allowed at all. Also there are some stickies that people look over in this section too.
