I've noticed that if someone with not many posts replies to any thread;somebody will come along and say "Welcome to WI!" even if they joined in July 2007 and they only have 3 posts.
Instead of spamming up that thread you can go to there profile and welcome them to WI.
I don't think of it as spam for someone to say "welcome to WI"... I just think it's individuals trying to be nice to a member who does not have a lot of posts out there yet (regardless of WHEN it is that they joined). Anytime a member takes up the courage to start posting, it's always a nice thing to say hello and welcome them, and show the WI spirit. THey many have joined months ago, but only to be someone who was reading up on information. THat's how I started. Perhaps now that are being a contributor, and it's a great time to welcome them when that happens.
I don't really think of it as spam. Usually people who do that also post what they are going to say about the thread after that, so it's not much of a problem. Now, just saying, "Welcome to WI." and not actually posting anything after it might be considered a problem. I'm sure a member will feel a lot better when they read what that person has to say to them.
Thanks for the opinions everyone!
What i was trying to say i see this a lot and for example lets say somebody joined in May 2007. They have 3 posts and on a thread they answer someones question. A lot of people just Welcome them and not even thank them for the info.
The thing is, people from 2007 with 3 posts, may have decided they didn't like WI that much at the time. Well, maybe they logged in one day and decided they LOVED it. So they decided to post that they were officially 'joining.'
