Arrow Stick to what you say. A thread with Point and Purpose

Stick to What you Say

Now, I profoundly appreciate you for clicking this thread. A few days ago, I was assigned this paper about doing what’s right and all. My teacher had us read out what we wrote, and she asked us all if we actually followed what we wrote. And guess what? Less than half of the class didn’t, and there’s no guarantee that everyone was honest. The point is, it’s a ton easier to write something down just for the grade and all, but it’s actually a lot harder sticking to what you wrote.

My point on this thread is… if you’re going write something and tell others something, stick to that yourself. Like, if you tell someone not to steal, you shouldn’t steal either.

And with that said, I see handfuls of “Be nice to one another” and a bunch of “How to be a nicer WI member” threads, that doesn’t benefit the reader. What I mean, is that in some threads, it says:

“HOW TO BE A GOOD WI MEMBER:
You can be a good WI member by following the rules”

And there it is. That’s all. Note: I just made that up and anything like that is coincidental.
But not all WI member “how to be a good WI member” threads are like that. Some have SO much thought put into it, and WOW, they are so elaborately and eloquently written! I applaud those who take the time to help improve the enjoyment of a WI member. I just don’t really like the people that just post a pointless thread just for rep or post count.

Thanks for coming. I hope I could prove a point to you and I hope this wasn’t a waste of your time.
- Van

No, your message was NOT a "waste of time"..AT ALL! Your thread is now among those very eloquently written passages that you refer to. You are very correct, as in you realize in that it is much easier to just say the answer that others want to hear, and-one of the reasons why I enjoy the insider so much is because it helps to reinforce the basic fundamentals of how being nice is just what we do here, & that negatavity is a zero tolerance rule!
What a neat assignment from your teacher! If you didn't learn anything, well-then they didn't do their job...as it happens, you are now teaching US what you have learned. What an honor to your teacher!

You make some good points. I don't start a lot of threads simply because I don't have "new" information and don't want to start another thread similar to one already on the go. I am more into quality than quantity.

The reason that I read your post was because I had an English prof in university (first year) that used to give us lectures on "sticking to the topic"... and he was really funny. On day it was the peanut butter lecture, another day it was the bubble gum lecture. The whole idea was to teach us to stay on topic and stick to one idea and make our point in a clear manner. I do appreciate posts that are written with a purpose in mind.

AAAHHH, a very wise man once said (my dad) If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. As an older person, who remembers our 1st color TV, I have seen the use of computers become common place. With my own children I have witnessed them receive messages that their friends would never say out loud. Some how the typed word (good or bad, usually bad in these situations) has become acceptable. It is very nice to see this generation SEE this behavior and try and do something about it. Good Job. It does my heart good to know there are people out there who "get it" and are trying to make a difference.

I think you have a good piont. Although it's hard not to get up in post count or other things, we should alwayss remember to make things meaningful. And we should always stay true to our word. Thanks for the thread!

Your thread was definiatly not a waist of time.

I totally agree, we shouldn't just create threads because we think theirs a problem, or other stuff. Most of the threads like that never had a meaning. People can't grasp onto it, that's why they never work out.

Great thread, rep for you!
