I love few of the mods and admin and there are a few that I don't care for much.

I edited my post because I get it now. It just took me a while because I stopped to look at lolcats.

I'm not mad at the staff in all, I just didn't think the admin who handled the situation wasn't very considerate and didn't even want to explain why I was banned, even when I explained to her why I was confused. In fact I had to PM another admin, who had to look into the situation, to explain to me. The fact that I had to even do this really frustrated me. Yes, I am a kid, yes, I mess up sometimes. I appreciate that the admin I later PM'ed cleared things up for me, although after I explained my side of the story I was still removed from the GE for 2 weeks. I didn't complain because I knew there really wasn't a point in complaining. The admin is no longer an admin here, so I'm not talking about any on staff at the moment. There are nice admins/mods out there, so don't base your judgment on the WI staff based on one bad experience.
Well, I can certainly understand where you're coming from, but unfortunately, I think that not knowing is never a valid excuse. You truly didn't know that was wrong, and I'm sure many other people who do something against the rules didn't know it was wrong either, but it's only fair that the staff enforces the rules, because they can't make exceptions-that would make for even more disagreement, and they are supposed to be just and treat everyone with the same rules in mind-no one should get off the hook for something just because of their situation-i.e. who they are, how much they contribute to the forum, whether they didn't know or not. If anything, the banning certainly helped teach you that what you did wasn't allowed.

But you PMed the admin and they refused to tell you why you were banned? That isn't what should be happening-if the admin is taught the rules they have to enforce and the kind of behavior they have to monitor, then they should also be ready to explain it. What happened to you should not have happened at all. I'm not sure how the whole staff selection process works, but I know that if I were the one selecting the staff, and "training" them to become a staff member, I would definitely make sure they were ready to answer any questions regarding the rules when a member asked them.

In my opinion, there should be a strong connection and level of interaction between staff-no member should ever be afraid or hesitant to contact a staff member with a question-they should be there to help. As enforcers of the rules, they should be familiar with them and be ready to help others further and better understand them, in order to keep the same thing from happening again.

I bolded that statement because it's what I really believe-if a staff member refuses to answer your question about the rules, then they are ones whose actions should be reconsidered. It's a shame that you have to be afraid though-try to forget about that, and there is most likely a very slim chance that you will ever be in a situation where you aren't sure of the right thing to do...Just take some time to think it through, and go with your instinct.

I think so, too. I don't see why not to like any of them... they're all volunteers who are nice, like to chat with people, and they buckle down and get the job done when they're needed.

Although I didn't agree at the time, I can now see why it isn't a valid excuse. Otherwise, millions of people in real life would get away with things because they simply claimed "well I didn't know that was the law".

Sorry for kind of straying off topic here..... that's probably one of the reasons why the staff here is known as "strict". Because not knowing is not taken as an excuse?

Definitely... "not knowing" should not be taken as an excuse and that's good for them to not accept it.

I know where you're coming from, but do you really consider that as trading through PM? This is just going back to the whole strictness thing-- I wasn't asking the person to trade, I asked them to open up their trade thread. I'm sure there are others who have done the same thing as me but weren't "caught" or their friends weren't banned earlier that day (LOL lucky me, huh? What are the chances of that?) I would understand if I was banned for PMing them saying "Hey, I got ____ (I forgot what it was LOL), what would you trade me for it?" If I were banned for THAT, I'd understand fully.

Being banned for that doesn't seem very fair, but thankfully it wasn't permanent and you've probably learned something from it.
