The staff are doing their best. The rules are somewhat... strict. Sure, I can agree with that. But at least, the fact that a team of about 25-ish staff members can keep such a large forum under control is just amazing. At least they try to keep the forum safe. Some don't, some do. I have to say, WI is one of the best-run forums I've been on; our wonderful staff keep everything safe.

So, before you bash the rules and staff, keep this in mind.
Kudos, Luna.

It wouldn't be adding rules.
It would be making a thread [or making another section in the rules] to let people know exactly what isn't allowed, so they won't say things like "*insertstaffmembersname* said it would be okay to make this thread, but then *insertanotherstaffmembersname* came along and closed it cause they said it wasn't allowed" and people wouldn't argue that their thread was closed and it didn't say anything about those kinds of threads not being allowed in the rules.
It's been said that advice threads on certain topics aren't allowed, but threads are getting deleted; yet, it's not mentioned anywhere in the rules.

So, Staff, members of WI; I ask you to read what I have to say.

Recently, I've been seeing lots of people complaining that WI's rules are getting stricter and you can't make a good thread without having it deleted and that WI isn't fun anymore. Thread's get closed for reasons like WI not being the best place to ask for medical advice, dating/friendship help, family problems, ect... I agree with that, I don't think WI is the right place for this, some random 8-year old could come on here, post something totally wrong, and then you could try it and have a problem.

My suggestion is either
A] Revising the WI rules and going in-depth with what kinds of threads we can't make. That way, someone can't say "Oh, there's just a Staff member going around closing all my threads because they don't like me and they gave me a stupid reason for closing/deleting it that isn't even in the rules".

Or B] Making a thread and posting it somewhere where all can see [probably Open Mike] that also has a list about threads we can't make.
We already have one like that in the Polls section [but I think that needs to be updated, too... like no polls asking "Find the Lie", "Guess My Name", and stuff like that cause those are getting deleted, too] --->
http://www.webkinzinsider.com/forum/...before-582474/

If there were to be a list of thread topics that aren't allowed, I think it should look something like this [just put together in my head in like 5 seconds as an example] :

An example of things that would be allowed...
Earning money advice
What type of pet/ipod/camera/webkinz/ect should I get
Outfit help
Recommendations for music/books/movies/video games
Where can I find/buy a certain item

My original idea was to have a list of threads we can/can't make, but webkinz_forever pointed this out and I agree with her.

NOT ALLOWED:
Health/injury/healthy eating advice
Friendship advice
Dating advice
Family advice
What to do with an injured animal

Like I said earlier, if there was a thread for this, or this was in the rules, people couldn't say, "Oh, there's just a Staff member going around closing all my threads because they don't like me and they gave me a stupid reason for closing/deleting it that isn't even in the rules".

All the Staff members would also be on the same page, because I've heard people say that one Staff member will close polls about a certain topic, but they asked another Staff member if those polls were allowed and they said they were fine. Another example is on a contest that I entered, one Staff member told that host that they could offer WI Bucks as prizes, and then the next day another Staff member comes along and edits the contest saying that giving out WI Bucks for prizes isn't allowed. So, if all the Staff came up with a list, they would all be closing and deleting the same types of threads and no one could claim that one Staff member is stricter than the other.

And on a final note, to the people who claim "WI is becoming too strict and favoring certain members by not closing their threads on a certain topic, but closing ones made by other members".
It is not for you to tell that Staff what you want them to do, it is their site, they run it, they make the rules. If it weren't for them, there would be no WI. If you have a problem, you can leave and find another site. Rules and regulations are getting stricter everywhere, not just online, but in real life; everywhere from airports and Arizona to zoos and New Zealand. You either adjust and accept it, try to work something reasonable out [like this], or leave.

I'm sorry if I've said something, but I really don't want to argue with you guys. We all have our opinions and ideas, so thanks for reading min

There's nothing that annoys me more than seeing "This site is too strict."
I love it just the way it is. I feel safe on here and that's the purpose.

I DO NOT agree with that. I feel the staff needs to be strict to keep a site of this size organized.

What I do think is that the staff is not cohesive, or not consistent with the rules and that leads to some threads being closed while others are not.

EX. I am one that had a Find the Lie Poll (and yes I did read the rules thanks)
I PMed a MOD first and went over my idea and got the green light for the poll.
The next day my poll was closed.

So I feel I did the right things and followed the rules. Yet there was disagreement among the staff.

Personally above all I think the staff does a incredible job with a huge fan base and a all volunteer basis.

I would also like to add that I've seen other threads by the same people that complain about this site, complaining how OTHER sites are rude. It's ironic really. If you want manners and civility, this is the site.
I agree! It is for our safety. If you have a problem go find another site that doesnt have strict moderators, but then its unsafe and a total mess.

Hehe, thanks for the kudos. I really needed to get my opinion out. TBH, the arguing in this thread has been a wonderful source of entertainment for me the past few hours.

This may be a few pages back, but oh well.
What we've been saying is if you don't like the site and you would like to leave, you're free to go. Or stay, if you'd like. There's really no need to say that, "we have friends on here, believe it or not." Also, the rules have not, as MANY people already have said, gotten any stricter. They have been enforcing them more because the "original group of members" is getting older and more mature. More likely to want to make a stand for themselves instead of holding back and following rules so obediently.
I also agree with lunagrrl on two things. 1. is that forums, yes, are very hard to manage, much less one with over 150 thousand members, and 2. that this thread has been an amusing occupation for the past couple of hours.

ummm, no the rules haven't been the same. When I first joined, you could post your age. Yes, that's right, I knew how old my friends on here were. You used to be able to ask advice about family stuff, now you can't. I used to be able to say what my job is (it's not an uncommon job at all), and now I can't. So the rules have been changed and the actual written rules need to be updated.

It is incredibly frustrating to not know the exact rules here. They need to be written down so everyone can be on the same page. Mods aren't on the same page and some let things slide that others would delete immediately. It is just so annoying that I don't know what I can't post, so I make posts that get deleted all the time when I didn't think they were against the rules.

I also have a forum (I am an admin on my site). It only has seven members. WI has COUNTLESS members. It's hard to take care of my site alone (my co-site-owner-person can't remember her password ) with only seven members. I don't even want to THINK about what it would be like to be a mod/admin on WI! :O It IS hard, and I think the mods and admins are doing a great job running the site.

Sure, they need to be updated, but they run a site. They can't do everything in a blink of an eye. They're humans, like us, They have lives. They get busy.

And another thing:

All of the staff here are over 18, have no criminal records (the founders do background checks), and most are parents. They have lives, too, with their families and jobs. They most likely don't spend all day checking out the forum. Most forums are run by teens who have no clue what they are doing. Just give our staff a break; they are doing wonderfully as is.
