Although I see Dixie's point and agree with her on the most part, I like the idea of having the option to have the notification. We have the option now to turn on the notification for PM's, profile posts, friend requests, etc. Why not have rep given added as well? Those who want it turn it on .. those of us who don't leave it off.
I agree with this completely. I don't really see a "purpose" being defeated by getting a notification..the purpose of reputation is to thank someone & let them know they're helpful, and this would help us to do that. Although Dixiecup made some good points, you could always turn it off if you didn't want it.
No...I think it would defeat the purpose...I think Reputation should be a freely given 'gift' to the contributor. I like the way it is. It is forgivable, at this point, if I don't thank someone who thanked me for doing the right thing. If this were to happen we would be spending so much time thanking each other for thanking each other for thanking each other...it would become an endless reciprocity. Where would you draw that line? How long would it take before an 'embittered' poster would hound you and say, 'When are you going to thank me for the Rep point?' Because they would know you had notification.
I agree but I don't. It's a nice idea and all but then there wouldn't be a point in having rep really. It's so much better to be surprised when you go and look at your rep and see that you got a new one. Rep for you though, for the creative thinking.
