Hi, it's me! I think that this is a very important thing for WI, but I feel it has been somewhat "abused". Reputation points are very important, it means that you have done something good, and people appreciate it. But recently, I have noticed something that should be noticed.
Some people give other people rep for no reason, and while it is very generous, it is also unacceptable. I once went to a riddle contest. I posted once for one riddle, and I got it right. The next day, I was looking to see if I had any subscribed threads, ( I don't know why, I guess I was just bored ) I glanced down at my reputation, and I saw something from the riddle thread, and it said, "nice". I did not deserve that rep for any reason at all. Does anyone else agree with me?

I know, being kind gives you rep, I understand that. But I know someone who got rep for being the first post on a thread. I understand what you are saying, its just that rep is important and is used for no reason sometimes.
I think it's a bit like a thank - you , or a pat on the back. I know I like it. I am trying to help , but why do you have such a negative attitude about it? I am NOT trying to be mean or anything, but , quite frankly, that was really RUDE!

I don't think rep is that important. A lot of people don't have a lot of rep.. but that doesn't mean they don't do nice things for others. It doesn't matter how much rep you have, or even if you get mit for no reason. Yes, the WI Staff recomends you ONLY give rep for someone who has been nice and helpful around the forum. I have also gotten rep like this... What's important is who you are on the inside. Not what you seem like on the outside.
I disagree, I think most people use the rep system for what it is intended to be. I went and looked at the latest reputation, and none of it has been for the wrong reasons. I think it the year I have been here, I have gotten 5 points that were not for being helpful/nice, etc.
