Yes, there are millions of people who are age 6, and millions age 19. Unfortunately there are creepy predators out there. Say you just say you are age 10 and some creepy guy or woman wants to target kids between the ages of 8 and 12. What starts as an innocent posting of "I'm Jane age 10 and I play soccer." Creepy Person goes "AHA", that's the age I'm looking for and starts by saying "I like soccer too! But I coudlnt' play today because it was raining out." Then Jane assumes that their new friend is their age and might comment on the weather in their area. Creepy Person can maybe start narrowing down where Jane lives based on her weather comment. If Jane gives out the name of their soccer team but not even the name of their state, all Creepy Person has to do is go online and find all the schools with a soccer team with that name. Yes, there might be 1,000 teams with the name "Wet Wildhogs" but once you start piecing information together, finding a person is fairly easy. Sooner or later, too much information can be released and before she knows it, innocent Jane has herself a real life stalker or worse. I know that the chances of that happening are rare, but it's a chance that WI
does not want to take. Think of it, if somene DOES get hurt by someone they met on this website, WI
gets sued, someoe from WI
might go to jail, or have alot of fines to pay, the site gets shut down and we all lose.
So yes, just posting your age should be fine in a perfect
world, but it's the other personal information that sometimes goes along with it, however innocently , that can create a bad situation.
