Exclamation A reminder for name shop owners....

I've seen quite a few threads asking for pet names, and people will post a few names and then say something like 'Get more cool names like this at *insert name shop title!*" or even just "more at my shop."

For an experiment, I clicked on four random threads asking for pet names for a certain pet. Two of them had these type of posts.

I'd just like to point out that not only is this sort of annoying, it's against the rules. And it's posted that any shop owners violating those rules will get their shop closed and will not be allowed to make another.

I'd hate to see these fabulous shops closed, so shop owners, be careful not to advertise outside your signature!

Great Reminder. I work for another shop, but I never advertise it, unless it's in my signature.

i'm not quiet sure saying those things is called advertising. advertising is like if you open a thread in the general discussion, just to tell people about you shop... or if you put it in a thread that isn't connected to the subject of your shop. like if someone makes a thread about something else and you comment there "nice thread, come to my name shop!" - that's advertising.
if someone would ask something like "i don't know how to make graphics but i want a nice siggie of my own, can anyone make me a nice siggie?", i would give them the link to the graphic shop's forum, and if i had a graphics shop, i'd probably give a link to my shop too. is that called advertising? that's just answering someone's question, to help them. i don't think this should be considered advertising.

You aren't allowed to open another shop until you reach a certain amount of posts (1000 I believe).
If you'd like it re-opened, just red flag it and put 'Please Re-Open'.

True, but people are asking for names, not a name shop. If the user posted 'I'm looking for a good shop to order a name from,' and you gave them your link, that wouldn't be advertising. But if you're asking for a name, and they show you their name shop? Well, we might need a mod to answer that one.

Thanks for the reminder, luv2writeNS, you are quite right. Advertising is allowed ONLY in your siggie...

Because the staff can't be everywhere at once, we operate on the flag system. If you see someone advertising their thread, or breaking any other rule, please just flag the thread/post. We will look at it and make a decision: if it's OK, or if it's not allowed.
