What is the protocol for receiving rep points? If you get one, does that mean that you are expected to give one back to whoever gave it to you? Or is it just a gesture and you don't? I was just wondering what others do. I don't want to make anyone's feelings hurt.
There is no protocal for rep. Rep was made so that you can just say thanks to someone who may have helped you, instead of pming them or tracking down the thread and posting it on there. A quick simple, thanks for the help
It's just a way of acknowledging someone, to say thanks. You are never under any obligation to give rep points to anyone. I think it's totally up to you. I give them if I've found a post to be particularily helpful.
It's kind of like 'Kinzpost' The only thing you can expect back is a thanks...by that I mean that a person who gets rep MIGHT want to go to the givers profile page and leave them a little note thanking them. But beyond that, you would be handing Rep back and forth all day, LOL.
COWS is right, if you appreciated a post, found someone friendly and helpful or found some new insight from it, by all means give rep, but don't expect it in return. its a bit like 'pay it forward' because somewhere along the line, that person will remember you giving them rep and see a post of yours and give it back to you. It ALLL comes back.
