Well, if you're spending more than you can afford in Webkinz merchandise, and failing all your classes because you're playing on here instead of doing your homework, and family members barely recognize you anymore, then I can see it being a problem. So long as you are enjoying yourself and not letting this obsession get the better of you, I wouldn't worry about it. Good stuff to think about, though. Of course your teacher is right, but it is awfully fun to look back 20 years at clothing and hairstyles we all thought were so cool.
Dotdotdot, although I agree with your teacher's poster, I sure don't agree with the way you saw your time on WW and WI in your first post. No, you didn't waste your time here just having fun. You did much more than that. Playing is a way of learning, and having fun just means that you enjoyed yourself while you learned. You grew and matured, you learned and helped many others to learn things. Your kind words impacted others in ways that you cannot imagine: perhaps you made an unhappy person feel better one day, or helped someone feel less frustrated. You became a Gift Guru, and this requires discipline and persistence, organisation and also kindness and empathy with your fellow traders. Oh yes, every minute here was well spent. If and when (if ever) you put away your Webkinz and stop posting on WI, you can feel good about the time you spent here. It wasn't wasted at all.
Wow Lily, thank you for the very kind words and I really do see what your trying to say

Oh no, my obsession is TINY compared to that! LOL
Thanks for sharing your opinion

I've thought this before, but lets look at it from the other viewpoint
In 20 years from now, WI might not be here. You might not remember everything about it. Chances are, though, that you will remember it was a fun pastime. That you had friends here. That you enjoyed it. Not everything is about doing something productive you know
It's just the same: You won't remember all your real-life friends. Will you still know you had a fun time? Yes. Will you remember that your talking and playing with them was worth it? Yes.
Sometimes we just need fun things in life
I understand what your saying, and I know it's sort of bad to sit in front of the computer all day (hehehe.. I do :/) but it's still fun. I find WI and WW a form of entertainment, just like some people find drawing, or painting, or soccer, or chess, or card games.
You got it?
Thanks for the great thread which lets us voice our opinions
The other day my Social Studies teacher put up some new posters... (I know, its like the END of the year! ) one in particular caught my eye... it said: "Twenty years from now, it won't matter what shoes you wore, how your hair looked, or what kind of jeans you bought. What will matter is what you learned and how you used it."
and I thought to myself: Wow! This makes PERFECT sense!
And here is how WI/WW comes in: I know that many people, kids and adults alike (me included ) think that WI and WW are AWESOME sites! But last night I got lost deep in thought and asked myself: In twenty years, will it really matter how many posts I had, how much rep I recieved, what my WI status was, how popular I was on here, how many WW pets I had, if I was an Insider Insider or not, how many rare items I had on WW, what rating did my threads get? No... (I know there are many "What ifs" but lets not focus on those )
My point is that Webkinz Insider and Webkinz World are GREAT past-times, but someday we'll get tired of it and eventually leave (I have considered leaving before) and it makes me sad to think that all our hard work will be gone...
This REALLY hit me and I guess it might sound kinda ironic coming from me, (*looks over at posts/rep/status*) but I really think that some of us (once again, me included) have gotten so caught up in this and have REALLY come a long way and I will be very sorry for when the day comes that I decide to leave... I really wish that I could have thought of this sooner so that I wouldn't have wasted (maybe wasted isn't the right word... ) so much time here on WI...
No! Please don't attack me for saying this! *raises white flag*
But please, nicely post your thoughts on this...
Thank you for taking the time to read this
Rep if I can give you any! I totally agree with your post! You may love how much rep boxes you have, how much post stars you have, and what your status is now but theirs no point of it being your pride and joy, because one day you'll just forget about it and not care.

Okay, I know that the posts, rep, and statuses don't matter, but the time here on WI will. I will always remember some friends that I made on here, and the people who have given me advice to help me out a lot.
Yeah, I have thought of that before...... And I know how obsessed we all can get with these stuffed animals, but they are my only time where I can get away from the homework, and just do something fun, you know? At my school when we have one project in one core class, we have a project in every other class too. I think Webkinz is my to escape school and the gossip, and just relax.
We have that poster at my school. And yes, it does make sense. I cannot seriously post that I disagree-- I think this is actually one of the most logical threads ever. For alot of people; this can really open their eyes. They can notice everything going on around them! That their lives are passing by, and passing by quick. You have one life to live, let's not spend our lives infront of a computer.
I agree. I know that i may not like webkinz forever. ( i don't intend to quit anytime soon) But when i'm in college will it matter if i have a jiant bean plant? Or other items that i fought in the trading room for. (not literally) I try not to buy to many prodcuts cause it doesn't mean i have more fun when i spend the money, and frankly, it's not wise. I'm not nagging on anybody for buying webkinz or anything just stating what works for me.
Someday we wiil grow out of it and someday it'll get old, but I think that even if we grow out of it, there is no reason not to spend time here. It's a fun place and it's a great way to just relax and have fun. I also have turned to some of my WI friends when I have a problem come up and need moral support.
Someday I know I'm gonna stop coming (Like a long long long time from now LOL) but it doesn't mean that my time was wasted. I had fun, I helped people, I recieved help, and all in all it's a really great place to be even if someday I grow out of it
