Default Possibility for "new" and "birthday" sections

Hi there,

Recently, many older threads in the two sections mentioned in the title have been working their way back up to the top. This buries the "younger" threads. Would there be a way to set an auto-closing time for those two sections? Possibly 10 days after creation date?

I think that would be a great idea for those sections. Keep it 'fresh' and up-to-date.

I agree, or maybe the mods could lock the threads in the birthday section, the day after the birthday?

I haven't noticed that the old ones take precedence at all and I post there every day.

Sorry I don't see a problem at all.

I don't know which forum you mean by "new". Birthdays, yes.

All threads auto-close after 14 days if no one posts on them. To make some forums auto- close their threads after all different numbers of days would lead to confusion and hurt feelings.

One must learn to respect the right of late-comers to post on the thread, or belated wish-bearers, to post - even if they are late. If people want to post on a closed thread, they may flag it to ask to re-open it, or PM a staff member and ask. There is no dead-line about good wishes.

I'm sorry, but we can't set a special "auto close" date just for one or two sections. In vBulletin (the program WI runs on), all sections set to "auto close" have to do it after the same amount of days.

Right now threads close if they haven't had a new post after 14 days. If you ever see a really old thread that has been "kept alive" by new posts long after it should have, you can red flag it for a member of the staff to close manually.
