Default PM Timing

A rule that sometimes gets annoying is the rule where you must wait 30 seconds to send PMs. Me and my friend Sonja (DancingPants160) like to chat using PMs, and we usually send about two or three at a time. It gets very irritating when you get this all the time—

This forum requires that you wait 30 seconds between sending private messages. Please try again in __ seconds.

That rule is in place so that members who like to PM a lot, like you and your friend, won't use up too much of the site's processing power. If we had a bunch of people, all sending PMs one right after the other, it could crash the site during peak use times.

Yeah, that's a good reason, I don't want WI to crash.

Good point, we wouldn't want WI to crash.

Yes, we all know we wouldn't like WI to crash.

And I, as mentioned in the 1st post, am with Leah on this one. I think at least, if the remaining time in the 30 seconds is under 5 seconds, you could be allowed to send it.

Yes, exactly. It gets VERY annoying.

Default Re: PM Timing

It is annoying sometimes, but I see why it exists. Plus, if someone was trying to spam you or something by sending TONS of PMs very quickly with only dots or something in them, this would dramatically lower the amount of PMs sent at a time. This is good for VMs for that reason.
But I've seen on other forums a 10 second wait. Do you think it would still help keep WI from crashing if it shortened to 10 seconds, or does it need to be 30 seconds since WI is much bigger member-wise than the others??

If you do not like this feature, I suggest saving enough WI bucks to buy a one-month membership. There's no "30 second rule" with the WI Insider memberships.
