Exclamation Please think before posting.

For the past few days I have seen countless numbers of posts that have gone from well intentioned to argumentative very quickly. While the Moderators have been on top of this and been doing a great job, I just wish that more people would stop and think that there are children on this site before they post some of the things they do. This account originally started out as my daughter's account, it then became our account, but at this point I have to question if I want her to read through these boards without my monitoring because who knows if a mod has cleaned something up yet.
When you stumble upon a delicate subject and go to post a reply to it just stop to ask yourself, how would I feel if someone said this to me, or my son, daughter, little sister, brother etc. I love these boards and I know we've got a great group of people and that people can get very passionate about some subjects but there is a way to be passionate without being rude or argumentative.
Thanks,
Ribbitsqueak's Mom

I totally agree! If there is a topic/thread that you cannot reply to without it being offending, or fight causing, don't post! If you can handle the topic in a mature and nice way, then go for it, but people from all age ranges are on here, and if you think that you can't post without being rude or causing trouble, don't post at all.

Well, I think that kids SHOULD be able to see debating and different opinions. Sometimes what is taken as rude is merely discussion. I enjoy verbal sparring, as long as it doesn't get ugly. So, be nice, but DON'T keep opinions to yourself.

Thanks for the good reminder. I don't let my kids go on forum yet. I am wondering also when they will be able to go on a forum alone.

I totally agree. I would not like to see a young child stumble into a bad topic. It would just be horrid.

I agree on the unappropriate/rude point, & minding our manners! Debate point I have to go with Ivie though. My kids know there are going to be times when you just can't ,or shouldn't agree with someone else's point of view. I would not be who I am today if I had not verbalized my opinions when I believed I needed to. Unforunately some kiddos are also not yet mature enough to understand the difference bettween debate & fight. So I am definately on board with this!
I agree 100% with the stop & think first attitude! It's sometimes easier not to think about others feelings first, or to be well intentioned ~ then have it sound a whole other way. Wording means a lot & children don't always get sarcasm or even well intentended corrections/statements/or whatever we're trying to relay to them.
Great thread!! Thanks for bringing it up! And I hope no one feels affended by my comments, because they are meant positively all around!!!

Happy Almost Halloween!

First I'd like to apologize I've neglected this thread and I really didn't mean to. I'd like to thank everyone who posted. Now on to some specifics

I agree with this wholeheartedly I encourage both of my girls to voice their opinions whenever they get the chance and let me tell you my older daughter can disagree and debate her heart out. It's exactly what you said "as long as it doesn't get ugly".

This brings up a very good point as well. Children aren't going to be able to read into things as easily as adults can. They need help and guidance. I guess that's why I pretty much took control of this account, now my daughter and I read through the boards together. I think that makes it a much more enriching experience for her. I can the explain things she needs explained.
