Default Re: Please Read! About Grammar On Wi!

For me it depends. For example,if I am tired, or in a rush, I am more prone to use "u", "ur", "2(for to)", "4", etc. When I am more relaxed, I tend to write things out better.

Yes, we did all agree to the forum rules when we started -- sadly, some forget or just ignore them.

Yes. All that "stupid stuff" is what makes it possible for humans to communicate with each other. It is very important.

Misunderstanding a sentence has confused people, hurt feelings and even started wars.

I try to be fair to everyone and not judge them but, honestly, whenever I read a post that is mostly text speak or full of misspellings -- I can't help but think the person is not very smart.

Kids have to remember -- this is not just chatting with your young friends here. People of all ages and from around the entire world can see and read this.

Please show others that you care enough to talk in clear English with them. That way they can understand you. They will respect you in return for that effort.

Or you could post with many misspelled words, lack of punctuation and no capital letters -- and make other people have a very poor impression about you. It is your choice.

It does get annoying when people start typing with incorrect grammar. It takes WAY longer to read! I mean seriously, it isn't THAT hard. It's ok if you by accident not do a capatilzation, but misspelling EVERYTHING on PURPOSE b/c you think it's COOL to do that is just way beyond...everything!!! so plz STOP DOING THAT! (oops I made a punctuation error on so! lol)

I totally agree!!

hmmm.... if ppl r alwyz talkin lyke dis, den it iz hard 2 undrstnd thm. smtimes u kant tel wat they r tryin 2 say.

what bothers me most, is the spelling!!!! when people spell very simple words, such as awesome, wrong, it gets on my NERVES!!! rawr! haha.

the grammar doesn't bother me all that much, as long as i can decipher what they are saying.

---------- smile added 4 Minutes and 26 Seconds later ----------

Also, think about the young kids on here that are just learning grammar and puncuation! You don't want them turning in papers

dat lok lyke dis bcuz they see ppl doin it her on wi

do you? So, think about who might read your post before you post.

And BERT_X, I agree with you about judging people. I tend to moreso respect people who type in a somewhat refined manner rather than in some kind of extreme shorthand! I think it is okay to use words like ur, and 2, when you need to type something quickly.

I usually type quick, so I don't use correct grammar. Maybe I'll stop that though. I don't think i can't use lol, and those others though

I totally agree to all of you! I mean, I try my best to get proper spelling, punctuation, etc. And all the people who normally make our lives harder
cuz is soper harte ta reed wat the r sayn!
I mean, come on! We are not in grade 1 are we? Maybe if the adults were their children!
OH! One of my BIGGEST pet peaves... The "they're" situation!
You see, if it has the apostraphe, then it means that little mark infront of the "R" is replacing a letter, which means the letter is "A." So if you were saying, "My friends are walking. There going to the mall." That would be wrong! It would have to be, "My friends are walking. They're going to the mall." -That would be correct!
The "there" means something like, "My hat is over there."
And the other "their" would be something like, "Those are their cards." The "their" means that is it a possesive. Which means that someone owns something in the sentence, story, etc. What I am really trying to say for the conclusion is that some people find it hard to read commas, periods, capitals, etc. But we "grammar members" find it easier. The thing is, if you stay in school, study, pay attention in class, etc. It will get you some where. Seriously. You NEED it in life almost more than food, water, clothing. (Okay, maybe not... ) Say you were on a desert island, stranded, and the only way to get off was by plane, and there was ONE single plane, but you had to READ the instructions BEFORE you could fly! So what would happen if you did not know how to do grammar, punctuation, etc? You would stay stranded, or you would crash! Now that is how you NEED grammar!

Please! Take it from a junior-high student!

Thankz for reading!
("Thankz"-I do it for fun, other than that, I am a perfectionist!)

~cecily101

Oh, and I especially agree with you on the "medieval" thing, too!

Oh, and I have another! The "too"! If you write "too" it means that you are adding on! Like I did up there! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^And if you do "to" it could mean, "I am going to the store."

Sorry, but I keep editing this to add on!!! GRR!
