Please modify titles with "Modified" and date when post 1 of rules or threads has important changes made

For typos and minor items, this doesn't really matter.

But when you modify a post, there is no way for a person just looking at the forum listing
to know that it has been done.

So if anything important is changed [essentially to post 1, but may be another important post],
especially to rules, guidelines, or contest threads,
I think it would be a good idea to update the thread title with " Modified xx/xx/xxxx"
at the end AND post 1 to indicate what has been updated,
even if a note to "see added info in post xx, modified xx/xx/xxxx".

Sometimes people don't have the time to edit the titles; they could be in a rush. You could just always reread the first post if you have to; not that big of a deal. :)

Re: Please modify titles with "Modified" and date when post 1 of rules or threads has important changes made

The point is that you will not know there has been a change to post 1
unless you go into the thread and see the modified time the system adds.

For example, a change was made recently by Justin to post 1 of Forum Rules, a closed thread.
If I hadn't been looking for some other information in the thread,
I would NEVER have known because I don't normally look back at old threads.

If post one of a contest thread is updated after you have entered,
how will you know?

Subscribing to every thread would be tedious, impossible, and I don't know
if modifications generate notices.

If you know a way, please share.

I would definitely keep checking back to see the winners/other entries, and would always re-read the first post for this very reason. If you are serious about a thread, then you should check back often :)

I think the only thing this applies to is GE's, stories, and maybe clubs. ;)

Yeah! These are the only places where this would be helpful! Like Canes said, just reread the 1st post! No biggie! There may be an update on the latest posts also!

Title real estate is important. Clutter is bad.

It's all about the clutter. And the Phenom II x4's, but mostly about clutter.

I think what this post is trying to say that the space in the title is important and to clutter it up with things the system might add would be counter-productive.

Individuals who are the thread starters can update their titles and include "modified" and a date if they so choose. However, title space is limited and not everyone might want their thread to look like that or contain that information.

What you can do is subscribe to threads you are interested in and by clicking the first post you can easily tell the last time it was modified by checking the bottom:)

While your suggestion has great merit, still one cannot tell others how to write. Updating the first post is the prerogative of the thread owner. Thank you CanesFan for the good advice about keeping up with threads of interest.

As to the Forum Rules, all members would benefit from re-reading these at intervals. ;)
