No, I agree, it's unwise to pass over a story because of the title. However, other people may not think so, so it's a good idea to have a nice title when writing a story.
I, myself, am less captivated when I see a generic title such as "Rover's Great Adventure."
I'm an avid reader, but thosestories are more often than not left untouched by me.
That's not to say one-word names and such are always boring- lots of the time it leaves the reader wondering, therefore curious and therefore eager to read your story.

I actually disagree. Although I wish I had the time to read all the great stories on WI, I don't, and neither do the majority of members. A huge part of writing a good book/story is picking out an excellent title. Published authors spend months creating their titles. Without a good title, no one would buy their books.

It's the same on WI. People read the stories with the most interesting titles, because they do not have time to read all the stories on WI. Part of writing a good story is to create a good title, which the writers here on WI should spend a while picking out before they post their story if they want it to be read. I'm going to read the story that I think I'll like most if I only have twenty minutes. Usually the people who spend the time to make up a creative title are the ones who care the most about their stories and write the best ones.

Yes, it is very important to name your story something interesting. But it is also important to title your story with a name that actually relates to you story; I know that I spend a lot of time thinking about what my title should be. I feel like the title should convey the main conflict of the story, which is why my story is called The Pearl. Even though it isn't real exciting, it does give the reader an idea of what lies a head. I realize it's important to catch the reader in the beginning, but a really good book depends on the whole body, not just the title. I know several people that have worked very hard on their title, and it isn't incredibly prominent in the CW section, when their actual story is excellent.

I'm a little disappointed that so many people think that the title is a deal-breaker.To me, the content is obviously what matters. If you only have 20 minutes to read something, then I would suggest the stories that have so little posts/views. Those are the one's that get overlooked and ignored. At least that's how I look at it.

Thank you very much for posting and sharing your opinion. I appreciate it.

When I do read stories, I actually generally do read the ones that have only a couple posts and views. It's easier to navigate and they are usually not very long yet (because they just started and haven't added more chapters). If I'm choosing between two stories with only a couple views and one has a more interesting title, I'm more likely to click on that one though.

I understand what your saying.
I am also drawn to a more exciting title, but when somebody doesn't have a very good name than you shouldn't just write them off. I feel like all stories should be acknowledged on WI. I've even suggested better title's on stories that weren't doing well. It all depends on how you handle it.
Again, thank you very much for posting.
