There's a fine line between copying and plagiarism. It's important that you stand up for your rights. It's also easy for two people to have the same ideas though..but deep down 'they' know. Step above it and remember that people will remember you for it..even if they don't say it. This happens all the time to Update Threads I make in the Rumor Mill. It's not easy - I understand where you are coming from.

You have a very good point. One example I can think of is with the house threads. If you like someone's room and want to make one for yourself, compliment it on their thread and then send them a PM asking if you can make a replica of their room. Tell them how you really like it and want one in your house. I know I would be FLAMING mad if I went to one of my WW friends' houses and saw an exact copy of one of my unique rooms! So just treat people how you would like to be treated. Great thread and rep for you!

Well, I think you should report them because what they did was wrong and you did let them know- well, if they put in the first post of their thread that it WAS YOUR IDEA, i think that's fine...but i do have a bone to pick in the Housez area----ok so what if you saw an idea of a room but the person was banned and they made up a phony name just to get back on (now they were banned for a reason, don't you consider that wrong that they lie to get back on) and you couldn't get permission from them- yet you made the room a lot different but the same basic idea, but they got on and got mad and reported YOU! i just don't get it...i guess i didn't explain it right but i think you get the general idea!

that is so terrible !! I'd just try to politely tell the person not to do that, but if it continues I'd flag the post and explain to a mod ... but that's just what I'd do.
Plagarism is a very horrible thing to do, and it's pretty frustrating.

This thread engages some interesting questions. Traditionally, plagiarism is a serious academic crime in which someone steals a text verbatim from another author, without attribution and without quotation marks, and passes that text off as his or her own creation. It is a violation of domestic and international law because copyright for print culture is the equivalent of a patent for the world of science and technology--that is, the author legally owns the ideas, the text, and/or the processes.

I don't think that copying elements from someone else's house is plagiarism: we all look at the pictures of other people's houses for decorating ideas, which is pretty much like reading Martha Stewart Living or Home Beautiful. The adage "Imitation is the most sincere form of admiration" applies here. Given the limitation of items for home decoration in Webkinz World, it's also possible to come up with similar combinations. To copy an entire room and present it as your own work does fit the spirit of plagiarism, but it doesn't violate any laws since I doubt that anyone has taken out a copyright on a Webkinz house design. Mostly, though, copying an entire Webkinz room without attribution is morally wrong, pathetic, and totally lame, and it should be reported to the moderators for action.

That is annoying, when you see someone else with your work.
And I agree, there is a fine line between copying and plagiarism.
Ask someone before you use their ideas. =]
Rep for you!
