I was looking in the Open Mike section, and there are some threads that have been closed and I don't feel like they should be. For example there was one about blister help, slow day on wi, last day of school, and mosquitoes. I just think these could of stayed opened. Maybe I am wrong, it just makes me wonder.
I looked at a few of the threads, and it seems to me that they were closed because they were really just random and crowding the section. The blister one was answered, so there was no point in keeping it open. As for the other one I looked at---the "Slow day" one---it was really just a random thread that probably could have been taken up on the DCT.
So, I assume, that the staff closed them to keep the section uncluttered. (:
Yes-I agree with Lake. Many use the Open Mike forum as an "help column" type of thing, but sometimes, threads about fights with friends, and things like medical issues can get a little personal...in addition, many of those things belong on the DCT. I've noticed a lot of the OM threads such as the "slow day" turn into chatting.
I agree with both of you, Lake and Samoyeds. Many Open Mike thread could be avoided by going on the DCT. That's what it's for -- chatting. A lot of Open Mike threads go off topic with chatting when they should be, and it makes the site look messy and cluttered.
Threads either close automatically if no one posts for 14 days, or they get closed by a moderator (like this one just did) and this is for a variety of reasons. If the question has been answered, several times over, the thread gets closed. (This is why I just closed this thread)
Nothing personal about it. It frees up some room for the next thread.
If you want a closed thread to be re-opened because you have something new to add, just flag it and ask...
