Default offering "gifts" outside the GE?

Okay, I know that no one is permitted to ask or beg for gifts/presents, but are we allowed to offer someone a gift as a random act of kindness?

Specifically, saaaay someone posts that they accidentally fed their pet a food item that they intended to keep. They don't ask for anyone to give them one, they're just casually mentioning that it happened. If I read the thread and want to send them something on my own, am I allowed to do that?

I do it in the GE pretty frequently, but I'm just not sure if it's okay outside of the GE... ???

Thanks in advance to anyone who can give a definitive answer!

Ooh ohhh good question.
I think about that alot too.

I saw someone had some of their son's wants on their gift exchange once. So because they were a GG I sent a private message to them and asked could I please send my extra "gift" with no exchange (except maybe a KP ty note from him) to their son. We did do it, but I would love to know if that would be acceptable outside the GE.

No, outside the GE - in the open forum - it is not allowed. I'm sorry but it keeps people from (unfortunately) begging for items or posting false things. Sounds pessimistic but it is for everyone's best interests. Sorry
