I totally agree, and this was just my personal influence, that you shouldn't just post "I don't know" to a thread with a question, because that person's hopes will be brought up and then brought way back down because there was no answer to the question, just, "I don't know, [insert username here]." That would make me feel a little crummy, as if no one cared about my question.
Thank you for bringing this up, BackFlip15!
I halfly agree. Whenever i click on a thread I try to post on it. For example if i didnt know the anwser i would say "Sorry, I am not sure. You could try checking the FAQ. It might state it in there." I try to always post on a thread that I view because when I look at my threads and find 3500 views but 100 posts, it's a little upseting.
Very true! I see people go on to random help pages, and say "IDK" or "I don't know" just as an answer. If I don't know the answer, I either don't post, or I'll post the little information I know, or can relate to this situation. It's exactly like spam, it doesn't really mean anything, or help anybody, not even yourself. It's just one more post, but do post counts really matter? Have a fabulous day!
I don't know if I have an opinion on this subject, but I've already clicked on the thread so I don't know if I should leave a response or not??? Half the responders say you should leave a post on every thread you view, half the responders say that you should only reply to those post to which you can meaningfully contribute. How do I know the right thing to do?
Maybe we should all have color-coded names- those that want you to respond to their threads no matter what can have mauve-colored names and those that only want useful replies to their threads can have lilac-colored names. I'll take lilac, please!
People sometimes, i've noticed, contribute to threads don't REALLY contribute. Like when you post "I don't know..." that sounds a little SPAMish. If you REALLY want to contribute, put thought and meaning into your post. Don't just post.. to post. Even if you don't know the answer to a question, do small research and post. But if it's a confusing thread, ask the creator to elaborate on their thread. If you still don't get it, just odn't post. It really doesn't help...
Rep! I agree! Going on a help thread and simply saying "Um,I don't know" would sound like that person just posted that for a higher post count. Thanks for the reminder!
