Default Just curious - why the limit on total rep given per day?

I understand why there's a limit on giving rep to 1 individual... that makes perfect sense. What I don't get is why there's an overall limit. I give a lot of rep because I spend HOURS reading posts on WI. There are a lot of helpful people and helpful posts and I give rep until the site will no longer allow it. At that point, I get a message saying I have given too much rep for 24 hours and that I must wait to give more. Can someone explain why this is necessary? There are MANY helpful people here on WI and it seems silly to stop someone from giving them rep just because that person has given rep to several others that day.

I don't think there is a limit to how much rep. points given but I also know that 1 rep.point per post. I also do not know the exact answer.

I had never realised this. I am sure Justin or Wendy can answer this for you.

Hopefully one of them will see it and fill me in I'm sure there's a good reason... maybe someone abused the rep thing in the past.

Many have abused reps in the past. The total limit is built in to the system, and there is no way around it. Sorry!
