Default Judging Stories By Their Titles.

Well, the other day I was on my story in the Creative Writing section, and it kind of bugged me that no one had come to read it. So, I was looking around at the Creative Writing, and I noticed that the views only had two. I changed the name of the title to "Simple Plan" (It used to be Second Greatest Depression) and I got a response a minute later. So!

Here's what I figured out; people are judging stories by their titles. You know that saying... "Don't judge a book by it's cover"? Well, that applies very very literally to this issue. I really make sure to read most of the stories there, especially because I know what it's like not to get any responses. Most writers are just looking for some encouragement, so I go and I say what I like about their story, and even give them a few tips. I just think that everyone should give every thread a chance.

I agree; here, the phrase, "Don't judge a book by its cover" applies quite literally. XD I think that a lot of the time, though, the title is the only thing we have to go by when judging a story, apart from actually reading it.

Exactly! I've posted many stories, and not many have gotten more than a page of replies

I looked around, and noticed the ones with the most views, and posts, were stories about school girls, the Jonas Brothers and ect. I don't want to write about any of those things, but I want my story to be popular.

I agree, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but it's also important that the story has a catchy title or people might not want to read it. Since people may not have the time to go through every story and read them all, they will probably choose one with a title that interests them.

This is a very valid point. I just think that instead of choosing one with a catchy title, choose one with less comments or views.

I completely agree. I feel bad when I see a story that has no replies or no views, so I check it out, and it seems to be a wonderful story! And I know that I feel bad when I don't get good feedback from my stories, so it's one of those 'treat others how you would like to be treated' sayings as well. And really, an interesting book title will attract lots of views...you can try suggesting a title that would better fit somebody's story...but bottom line; don't judge a title!!
