Default Internet Safety

Etiquette (Manners)
  • Never, ever, ever assume your messages are confidential or private. You NEVER know who might be reading your personal communications.
  • Use proper grammer and punctuation. It's alot easier to read and to understand!
  • Write in normal sentences, using both upper and lower case letters. Using all upper case looks like you're shouting and is very rude.
  • Don't use excessive punctuation. No one likes looking at a bunch of exclamation points!
  • Don't forward jokes and chain letters. They clog up In-Boxes and makes it hard to find the important stuff.
  • Don't send angry messages. Calmly talk about your problems with the other person. If you recieve an angry message, ignore it!
  • Don't use foul language. If you shouldn't say the word, don't type it!
  • Keep it simple. Don't use bright font colors. Those are hard to read.
  • Please keep flashing things to a minimum. They can cause seizures in some people, and are very distracting.
  • Make sure your friends understand all abbreviations you use. If they don't, politely tell them.
Safety
  • Never give out your entire name, address, city, phone number, etc. Don't post this information in any forums, either.
  • Don't post a picture of yourself. It's against WI's rules, and very dangerous.
  • Don't give out your age or grade.
  • If someone says something that makes you uncomfortable, report the post, then sign off.
  • Remember, people pretend to be things they aren't online.
  • Never give out your password.
  • Never agree to meet someone in a public place. If you do, make sure a parent or gaurdian is with you at all times.
Please be careful online, and have fun! There are many things to discover, and many new people to meet!

Thumbs up Re: Internet Safety

Thanks for the reminder. I'm not sure about the top part though! People who have seizures alot, shouldn't be on the computer. Brght font is hard to read, but you can just highlight the words. Other than that, good job!

Great Tips! Thanks for the reminder!

Like you said in the first bullet "never ever ever assume your messages are confidential or private. You never know who may be reading your personal communications". I agree completly! The internet is also referred to as the World Wide Web, which means anybody in the world that has access to a computer can be reading things you say.

Nice Tips!
I think every once in a while we could all use a little reminder (:

[[I deffinantly agree with the first statement/bulliton.
You never know who is reading your messages or viewing for profile and etc. You never know where something you post may pop up. So it's a good thing to revise your posts & etc. to make sure they are not something that gives out personal information, or anything like that]]
*also remember messages can be forwarded.*

Thanks for posting this thread!
It was informative, and helpful.
Great job.
