In the old WI (A LONG time Ago) We had something like that. But we had to take them away, because kids couldn't be background checked. People should just flage bad posts so mods see them. It may work if the people were over 18
i heard that a long time ago, there was something called "younger mods", or something(not really sure), people who where kids but could assist the mods and admins....but you must be over 18 to be background checked, so the position could not be kept
Soccergollygal must have been around when they had the Forum Protectors That was before my time, too. I had read a bit about them and it seems they may have been Junior Moderators to some degree. Now what they did, I don't know, nor do I know what abilities they had. All I know is that it did not work out for various reasons and Administration decided the position was defunct. The violet color is now used for our Gift Coaches. I think there is also some truth to the fact that under 18's can't be background checked and Justin and Wendy do everything they can to maintain the security of this Forum. If you can't check someone's background before you select them, you are taking a HUGE risk in letting anyone who 'says' they are under 18 in the door to be a pre-Mod.
Hey everyone... I just had this thought and please... FEEL FREE to contradict what I say. I won't be offended
I thought of something like mini-mods. I know to be a mod, you have to be 18 or older. But like, I feel bad about how sometimes people post bad things on profiles but rarely anyone ever sees it and they don't get in trouble. But someone else does the same and they do. And some people don't. To make the mods jobs a little easier, I thought a group of members who usually may post and get on could help out a little. Like to look at profiles and if they think something is wrong to flag a mod. Because some people just don't realize that what they are posting could be seen by a 5 year old.
Mods, I don't think, have the time to be looking at every single member's profile to see if it's safe. I know there are alot of mods, but they may not need help...
I know it's not the best idea but it's happened. Seeing profiles that had a bad pic in their albums. Just so WI can be that much safer than it already is. lolz
I have been here long enough to be familiar with the "FPs". Forum Protectors were just as the the title suggests. They helped protect the forums, reported behavior that wasn't appropriate, and basically were another set of eyes for the mods/admins.
Yes it was due to legal reasons and advice from legal counsel to the owners of this site, the Forum Protector position was eliminated. As others have posted it did have a lot to do with not being able to do backgroud checks on anyone under 18, which most of the FP's were. I can tell you they were well liked, and well respected.
I think as members we can all help out whenever possible and flag anything that does not appear appropriate. We don't need a title to pitch in and keep this the site the way that the owners, mods and admins work so hard to keep safe.
