Default I know this is a bit extreme, but it would help.

Hypothetically speaking, let's say I make a post in the 'Open Mike' forum that my hamster is sick. UserA responds to feed it corn and give it space, air, and water. I give them a reputation point, quote their post, and thank them for their help.

A few minutes later, UserB is surfing the Open Mike forum. She sees my thread asking for help with my sick hamster. Interested, she clicks on it. When she finds she doesn't know anything about my problem, she posts 'I don't know.' I know this goes with Miafire's 'If you view it, try to post in it' thread, but when you keep posting a bunch of 'I dunno', it just.... makes a few people mad.

Is it OK to report these posts? I know... it seems extreme even to myself, and I know people mean well when they say 'I don't know, but good luck!', but when you make a thread looking for help, that doesn't really come across *to me* as helpful.

I agree.
If you can't really contribute, find a way to. Like search the web or if I didn't know I either wouldn't post or write...
"I'm so sorry about your sick hampster, i'm not quite sure what to do. I think you could find a way to help it online, or you could take it to the vet."
That gives them something to do, yeah it's not specific, but it gives them an idea of what they could do.

It does bother me a little too...

Even if you don't know what to do, you can say. "I'm not sure, google some cures. Good luck!"

I'd just call 'em 'fluff' posts

Icecube, I agree with you completely! I just hope that such unhelpful posts don't count towards the 50 non-fluff posts for becoming a GT. I suspect that's why they are being made in the first place.

And saying "just google it" is not useful advice either. We're on the Internet. We all know that Google is there. And for the younger ones who are not allowed to google, it's also frustrating advice.

However, reporting these posts does seem too extreme to me. I wouldn't report them.

Rep! I agree! It's like when someone creates a thread asking "I met a person from WI in the clubhouse! Was it you?" and all you get is reply's like "It wasent me!"

I think it's 'fluff' posts. Now if they said something like:

Oh, I'm so sorry! I wish I could help, that's so sad!

I wouldn't say that was a report-worthy post, but if they just say

IDKKKKKKKKKKKK

or I dunno and have no means of input whatsoever, then fine by me.

I agree. Liek I said, I can't argue with sympathy and good wishes, but blatant not knowing isn't fine.

Yeah, and I do believe that unless you sincerely care about the topic or situation. I agree 100%.
