do you guys mean like if someone types like:
ex. 1) i abbrv. evrthin i typ! sum1 likes u! pizza iz so gd!
or
ex 2) i abbereviate everything i type! someone likes u! pizza is so good!
(i abreviate sum things like in ex. 2 is that ok?)
One or two obvious abbreviations here and there likely won't get you in any trouble - but why not just take the extra quarter of a second and type out the to extra letters to spell "you?" Using proper English here on WI not only helps everyone else understand your posts better, but it also helps you practice your spelling and grammar skills for school and work.
When you get into a habit of using shortcuts and text speak in every day life, sometimes you slip up in school, and use the abbreviations there as well. I'll never forget my Senior year of highschool, one of my English Lit papers - that I thought was superbly written - came back with 2 points off and a note on the back. It read, "Amy, I'm sorry I had to deduct for this error. Please check your work more carefully in the future." On the 2nd page, "gonna" was circled in red.
The reason that abbreaviations were made were because it is easier to type BRB that be right back. Or LOL than wow that was funny or something like that. It annoys me to but I'm just pointed it out.
Good point. It is annoying, and hard to read when people post like this: '' I hace20 cats. Man, it si hawt todat.. me bored
I like it when people use Proper spelling, punctuation, and sentences. Yes, it is downright hard to read, and it sometimes gets others into the habit of doing that. It is ok to mispell a word every now and then, but it's not good to mispell EVERY WORD YOU TYPE.

Your example you typed.. I sat here and tried to figure it out.. LOL... That is why I skip those types of posts I think we should all be able to read what is written and not have to decipher things

Some things like LOL or BRB are universally known and certainly fine, but much more than that is not OK. Many people do not text and do not understand that text speak, and if you're going to take the time to post and contribute to the forum, we ask that you do so in English so it can be read and understood by all.
I'd invite any of you who were unclear on this to re-read the forum rules and guidelines.

It's like reading a foreign language
Yes, it is. I really wrote ''I have 20 cats. Man, it is hot today'' And I skip those as well. For a moment, I couldn't even read what I wrote! LOL!
its easier for me because well i dont know it just dosen't seem right saying laugh out loud, instead of lol, but if the mods are against it (moderators, pardon my french)
