Go to a website -such as iconator- and when you see and icon that you like, right click on it, click "save picture as" , and name it. Then go and click "browse" on the thing that changes your avatar, and click the icon you saved. Then click "open" and then "save" and you have a moving icon! Hope this helped!
I might be able to explain animation to you - it is rather complicated which may be why no one has tried to help you out...
There are several ways of animating on the computer these days - flash animation is becoming very popular and requires some sort of program such as Swishmax to create your own. Java applets are another way to animate, however you have to figure out how to code them into html. I don't see them used very often any more.
For my website, I've used simple animations that I created using the Animation Wizard which is an add-on to Paint Shop Pro...another program you would have to buy and learn to use. I am going to try to show you a simple two part animation - this is a kitty who looks like he is crossing his eyes. There are actually two pictures here - the regular one and the cross-eyed one which I made using Paint Shop Pro. I had to go into the Animation Wizard to get the computer to make it into a gif - I don't know of any other way to create something like this:
If you want an animated avatar without having to buy and learn to use a photo editing program, check out the members' art section in this forum. Lots of people there offer their talents!
Working with computer graphics is a lot of fun! I'm not familiar with the Mac OS or I could recommend more specifically what you should do. If you are a student you might ask your school's computer teacher to guide you. Good luck and happy animating!
