Post Graphics and Giving Proper Credit

I have seen some confusion lately as to what is an original graphic and what isn't. I've also seen some confusion as to sharing website info for graphics.
If you find a Website that has graphics you like, and you use them in your shop, or just use them personally, you cannot claim it as your own. You must give credit to the website. I've seen people that think it's ok to keep it a secret. That's plagiarism to claim someone else's work as yours, and not giving them (the other website) credit. It's like writing a paper, and leaving out the footnotes or bibliography. You need to disclose the website, either on the graphic itself, or in your shop, or certainly when asked.
If the website is public, it's open to anyone.
What IS original is when the shop owner adds something personal and additional to the graphics. You can't take their creations that they make, and claim their graphics as your own.

Shop owners can not claim that they are the founder of a certain website graphic, and they can not legally claim ownership of something that is made on another site by another artist. That's illegal.

Bottom Line - Shop owners must give credit to the website. You cannot claim a graphic taken directly from a public site as yours.

I have s graphic's shop and I dont know if I understood, do you mean we should post like,

Dogs

EXAMPLE HERE
Thankz to the website dogsRus.com (I made that up )

or do you mean we should ALWAYS give the website to people who ask?
--------------
(if i did understand....)

Well, I dont think we should ALL give credit to the websites unless we want to... because if everyone knows, there would be no more graphic shops (except when they are home made) because everyone could just go and get their self a graphic. But I do think it is pretty nice when they do give credit, but I dont think we should all do it...

I find some of my avatars (for my own personal use) from Iconator. I don't claim their work as my own, I just use their avatars because people post them for other people to use but not to claim as their own. So what Desty is pointing out is you can't take an avatar from Iconator and put it under your examples for avatars and say that you made it when originally someone from Iconator made it. You would have to credit them since you didn't make it.

Thanks for bringing this up Desty!

Sorry, I didn't explain that very well.
I mean that a shop owner has to give proper credit to the site where they find their graphics. It's illegal not to.
The 1st rule in the Avvie/Siggy Shops section says that "you may not use images from other sites that have not been properly credited".

If people ask, a shop owner has to disclose their sources. The sources should be listed in their shop anyway though. It's not legal to claim it as original to the shop. (unless it's an original drawing or creation by the member)

yep, fluffy is right.

I give credit if people make mine, and I give credit to the websites\programs I use to find or make them. Its annoying when people are like, "Sorry its a secret."

Do you see how my thread at the end of Post # 1 has a Credits section? You could use something like that on your intro post so that the credits don't waste space under your forms are anything.

I will edit my credits to give credit in the morning

Thanks for reminding us It is upsetting when I ask where to find things and people will not tell me. Everything is open for everyone.

& I think that copying is the highest form of a compliment, even though I don't like it sometimes.

Yes, when people say "Do not ask where I get my graphics, it's private" It's so annoying. They should give credit. But they don't.
I'm glad you brought this up, Desty.

I don't put my credits next to my examples. I keep them on the 1st post. Is that ok?
