I doubt a predator would want to take the time to actually make 30 decent posts and would not even bother.
Vince, great idea.

Brillant! It is rather confusing if you don't know who's a guy and who's a girl. If you knew then you could talk about girl things with other girls and guy things with other guys, and saying wheather you are male or female is not saying much at all. I think we are all taking this saftey thing to an extreme, there are millions of males and millions of females, saying if you one or the other isn't narrowing the numbers much.
And the on off thing is another smart idea, that way people who want to be known as male or female can scream it to the world and the people who don't want to tell don't need to.
Everyone wins!

I think that it's a little to safe to do stuff like that! I mean come on, everyone is either male or female, it's not going to help a stalker much. I disagree with the pink and blue smileys, I'm a girl and I love blue so I wouldn't like that. I like the gender symbols, some idetifcation would be good, I have made that mistake with a lot of people and it's really embarrasing!

Oh, and if people are THAT worried, you could make it so you could put it up if you want to, make it optional.

Ii think that is wrong. I think that people under 18 (like me) should have to get parentel perrmission, but they should be able to. Besides, people would lie about their age to get it. If that was put in place, I know I would. I think that there is way to much age discrimination like that.
(If this post sounded rude, it wasn't meant that way at all)

The rules of WI are to protect the younger members, because they are the ones that can be hurt worst. I would hope that most of the people who use WI will respect the rules, even if they don't agree with them.

I feel bad if I do that so I usually put he/she, unless it seems obvious like webkinzgirl25 or supermom00 or southernchick or bobisme (i just made those usernames up for examples). I agree...but I like the idea of blue and pink smilies or the two symbols in the blue and pink colors, because some little kids don't know the difference(like me 4 years ago!) So far I haven't done that...but I don't want to keep saying he/she again and again.

Good point!
I'm sure others would agree that blue and pink would be stereotypical. Not intentionally, of course, because it is just a well-known way to help signify the gender.

Perhaps a different way to identify this... possibly just the words "boy" or "girl" or "male" or "female" under your avatar?

I don't think it matters much. In trading, if I'm not entirely sure of a gender, I just say "they". Although technically improper, it gets the point across.

Oh, and I'm female. Google me if you doubt it, LOL!
