I think that sounds like a good idea! Pink and blue smilies would solve all the confusion, lets all send a pm to Justin.

While I admire your enthusiasm, I don't think Justin needs to get a PM from everyone!

The moderators follow each and every thread very closely; if they think any ideas for WI are worthy ones, they will surely pass on the information to Justin and Wendy.

Yeah but still, there are millions of males and females, maybe more, so i seriously doubt that a predator can get you just by knowing your gender and nothing else, but good point

As a parent, I would not allow my kids using a site like this to identify their gender. I don't even mention their genders or quantity when trading with people - I only mention "kids." You just never know who is out there. Surely most of the people here on WI are great people and not to be worried about, but it is a public site and you don't know who is lurking or lying.

I suggest that if you want to address someone as "he" or "she" that you take a guess, write "he/she" or "they" or something like that. I bet that most people wouldn't be offended is you guessed a gender writing that and got it wrong. They'd either not care or let you know the correct one.

Good topic for discussion!

Mine kinda gives it away......LOL. And if I don't know if the user is a male/ female, I just say he/she. I'm kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place with this idea.

If a predator knows if you are male or female, what difference does it make? Does knowing your gender compromise your safety in any way? Gender is not specific enough a trait to matter.

For those of us who don't care whether our gender is known, the option could be made available to us to have a symbol indicating our gender. And for those younger members who want to be safer, there could be a way to turn it off so that the gender is not known to everyone.

Maybe there could even be a third option, where the gender only shows up on the profile page, and only to those people who are on your friends lst.

I disagree with the gender symbols. If someone wants you to know they will let you. If they are your friend they can inform you at their discression. Like me for example, how many times have i heard she or girl or chick, im a guy, lunawater is a family thing, and i just went with it.
