Lizzy, what you did was right, if someone asks your age or 'relative age' you should report it. That is a huge issue, here. Because we have so many children who use this site; Security and safety are a paramount. That is something that has to it's name.
Don't even leak out bits and pieces of info here and there because if there IS a predator who is following you all they have to do is put the pieces together and they have the information they need.
No ages or birthdates
No names (more the last name)
No team colors or team names
No telling where your 'gymnastics class is competing.'
When in doubt...keep it to yourself. It is for your safety we ask this.

As for members reading rules?? Sure, they may have read the rules, but are they FOLLOWING them?
I agree. Some one could read the rules and say: "I don't agree with these rules;so i won't follow them" and ask random people questions like: "What's your age?"

Everyone needs to remember this, never give out:
Your last name
School info [even small things can add up]
The name of a place you are vacationing at, or anything like that
Don't even give out things like the name of a local store
[rep to you]
Small things can add up.
Thanks for the rep!
I totally agree!

I agree with you! It's so important not to give out your person info. There are so many creeps out there!
thanks for agreeing! Even without releasing your age;name; or any other information; posting a picture of yourself makes it even easier for a stalker to find you because then they find out what that person looks like

It would be great if they were posted as stickys in ever section of the froum.
Yeah but they should've read them even before they post there welcome thread;because you have to agree to the rules before you can post.

Be honest here; Whenver you sign up for soemthing, do you read EVERY word of the 500 paragraph user agreement? No. The same with this website. They should just post the rules in every section to increase the chance of them being read.
While I appreciate your opinion (and do very much appreciate that you have done so politely), no one should ever agree to anything until they have read all the rules. When a member joins this site they should have read each and every rule. Failing to do so is not okay.
But by the SAME token, Smitchell it is ALSO our safety is our responsibility and we would be derelict if we took for granted that all people read the rules. It is like driving defensively; you have to assume that the other person has not read the handbook, because if you allow yourself to let your guard down for one moment that is when that 'I thought it would never happen to me;' moment HITS you.
