I will post a question. I then give reps to those who are kind enough to take time to answer the question, and it really is helpful. I don't give reps to the answers that seem like someone just wants to post.

I think that is spot on for how you are supposed to give them! If they help you, rep is a great way to tell them thank you.
That's a great point. But it's hard to determine who is and who isn't doing it for reps. If someone hasn't seen the very helpful post or thread they've seen, you can't blame them for "Copying." They may or may not be "Fishing For Reps," they may just be helpful.
So as annoying as it can be, let's not call them out by saying, "Please don't make your post based off of making yourself more popular." Just let them be and tell them it was a job well done. They are the only ones who truly know why they made that thread.
