Do we need to know?

I've been seeing this in my polls, and it's possibly been happening in other polls as well. It's honestly kind of annoying. :(

For example, the poll's topic is about something a user doesn't know about or doesn't like, and they post and say something like "I don't know what that is, sorry" or "I don't like that food, sorry".
A visual:

Who's your favorite character in the Tee Vee Series? (just an example)

- Tee
- Vee
- Jeno
- Other/Results

And then someone doesn't vote, or votes "Other" and says "I don't know what that show is, sorry."
To me, it kind of seems like unneeded posts/fluff. What's the point of going up to a thread and posting that you have no idea what the thread is about? I might've done this in the past, and we probably all have, but it should stop, don't you think?

Guilty as charged.::) I do in fact vote on polls that I may not understand the topic of, but I like this option. It gives you more freedom. If you don't have this option, and perhaps not a lot of people know what the show is, then not alot of polls would be voted on, do you get what I'm saying?:)

Well, it gives the original poster some feedback. To me, if I started a thread like that, I wouldn't find it annoying at all. It's just that the person just doesn't know what it is, and there is nothing wrong with them telling you that.

I see what you're saying. I guess I'd rather have people post on my poll, then have it ignored and pushed to the 2nd page. Even if their response is I've never seen those shows. (or whatever) There's probably a nice way to say it though, so it doesn't sound meaningless or rude.

Re: Do we need to know?

I do that some of them time. lol
But I think it gives you more info on how many people actually know what that is, i mean if your talking about something like- video games, tv shows, foods, characters, books, not everyone knows about them and your trying to see how many people actually go on things you like. If you don't want people that don't know what your talking about then that means your just trying to get the attention of those who do. Which usually ends up with a few votes unless its really popular. I think everyone should be free to post what they know or don't know(as long as its posted respectively to the topic). You know what I mean? If you post about something and someone doesn't know what that is and says so, you shouldn't get annoyed, just try to inform them about it maybe? :) Like Golden Puppy said, you wanted to get feedback, so your going to have to get an I don't Like It/I don't know what that is type of feedback. ;)
(gosh, sorry this is long. xP)

I don't think that's so annoying, because they're asking for opinions, not help. I do think it's a little annoying though and I feel like some people do that to get their post count up.

It used to really bug me when I would ask for help on webkinz and almost all of the answers to my topic would be "Sorry, but I don't know." I find that really rude and wish they just wouldn't answer at all.

Would you rather have no answer at all and have your thread ignored or know someone is reading it and answering you, even if its not helpful? ::)

Re: Do we need to know?

I don't think "this" should stop at all.. I personally am not annoyed just because someone doesn't know about the poll topic. It gives people a chance to learn about new things, and it helps to show to everyone what people like certain stuff and whatnot.

Re: Do we need to know?

I'm so guilty of what your saying. :???:

Also: If people make a poll they could take off the "Other" button. I look at that is... anything Other than what is listed. So"I don't know what that is, sorry" or "I don't like that food, sorry" Means Other to me.

:smiley6600: I made a thread for "I had a idea for Ganz". Some people posted that they didn't like my idea but I appreciated them reading and commenting. Some people could look at it as "why comment at all if you disagree, it could be looked at as rude" but it kept me thread alive. So after all that, I think its nice to comment no matter what their reason is.
