Lightbulb Confused on allowed vs. aloud? Click here!

Hello! I've noticed a lot of people mixing up the two words so, I thought I'd help clear up some confusion. (I did ask Justin if it was OK for me to do this.) Please understand that this is really meant a helpful tool and nothing else.

  • Allowed means permitted or able. Used in sentences:
I am not allowed to buy more webkinz. -- or --
I am only allowed to use the computer from 3pm-6pm.

  • Aloud means a tone that can be heard by others. Used in sentences:
The child read the book aloud. -- or --
She cried aloud in joy when she found the Love Puppy.

Hope that helps!!

that is correct. it means a tone

you might be getting confused bc i said "usually a loud one". crying aloud is a loud tone. but reading a book aloud is not a loud one. maybe i'll clarify that....

Yeah, I have seen a lot of people do that too. I got confused because I knew the correct one, but so many people used it incorrectly that I got confused.
