Yes, we could use this feature if we're in a hurry, but some members may think their shop was 'ruined' because they didn't reserve enough posts or something, and they'd close it, even though cocoabean can solve this problem. They might not have known that. Also, people may use it to close their own shops if they have under 1000 posts, which is against the rules if you want to start a new shop afterwards.
Members easily can flag it, say they're closed, and wait it to be locked or deleted.
I think just using a bold, large text will do the trick. And, if someone should post before you are ready, flag it for Cocoabean to delete it. If you are going on vacation or closed to orders, let those who didn't see your sign post and you ignore them.
I agree-it's not your fault if they post without reading the title that says "No orders for now-in renovation!". That's really all that's necessary, in my opinion. I would need a better reason in order to consider allowing people the privilege of being able to close on demand-this is something that gift gurus earn when they become guru (we can close and open our GEs whenever we want), and it's a great privilege, and I don't think it's necessary and sensible to give this ability to so many people and their shops. As people have said, if you have extra posts that have come from people not bothering to read the "No posting" sign, you can always ask a mod to delete them.
You can always flag it or PM a staff member to ask to have it closed. We don't mind
You can also, as people have said, put "closed" for your title This works well for me. If people order while I'm closed I just reply that I'm closed. Plus if I'm filling orders while closed then people can still post a comment about their order.
Also, if your shop is closed you can't edit while it's closed anyway
