Angry Being nice

I know this is just one of those reminder threads, that will probably be closed quickly, but I think there is a need for this thread by COWS to be looked at again by some members.
http://www.webkinzinsider.com/forum/...reated-491591/
Please remember that there are members on this site of all ages, and different levels of being able to express themselves. I've been seeing some really unkind comments. If you don't have something nice to say, or if your comment is going to probably hurt someone, just skip their thread.
I know the usual comment would be to just flag the posts if you think they are rude, but I just was hoping we could avoid the need for it sometimes. Just pause and think what you're going to say, and try to think about who it is that is going to receive that comment. If you see that there is a whole bunch of people sort of ganging up on someone, please don't 'pile on', you know what I mean?
I am just getting so disheartened by some of the comments I've been seeing.
I mean, is it really that hard to just tell someone that you appreciate them, even if you don't necessarily like what they like?

Yes, Desty, but for this occassion I do believe it needs to be quoted:

R E S P E C T this April 5th Chat Thread

Why did I pick this title for this Chat Thread? Lately there have been arguments, spam and just not being nice to each other going on the Chat Thread. Does a post count number make you who you are? Is it the color of your REP or how many boxes determine if you are a good person? No it does not. It is how you treat others. I like to think of us as all friends here.
  • Since you and your friends aren't clones, you will disagree sometimes!
  • Is it really worth fighting over? If it's trivial, or you're not going to agree no matter what, why not give it up? Agree to disagree and move on.
  • Friends have differences of opinion without putting each other down.
  • Even if you'll never agree - try to see the other person's viewpoint. At least honor his right to have his own opinions.
So please remember that when you make a random spam post just so that you can get post count to be the top poster, what exactly does that accomplish? When you ignore someone that has joined in on the DCT, what exactly does that say about you? When you start arguing with someone, what does that say about you as a friend? Be open to new friendships. You never know when the "next BFF" is going to come along. I wish that everyone today treats others nicely and you treat others the way you want to be treated. You would be amazed at the number of great friends you will find on this DCT, let alone on the forum. Just remember that behind that username, avatar, stars & REP boxes could be your next BFF, so why not try to talk to them and see what they like to do.

I agree if they don't have ANYTHING nice to say they should keep it to themselves or write on paper then tear it up or beat up a pillow or something instead of putting other people down

There are some rude remarks, but many that people may think are rude are the truth. I do believe that some people do come off rude, but many posts are the truth. It is hard to convey truth/honesty through the internet without it coming off rude.

^^Yeaah, this...

And me, being all doubtful, sees every annoying person on the internet as some old dude trying to troll us all, so I feel that they deserve it... I'm not the nicest of people, obviously, but I do agree that there is a line between honesty and just being plain rude, and that line should not be crossed, and we should avoid "straddling" it at all times.

Now, don't get me wrong. We should definitely try to be nice to everybody on the internet. But some people just end up crossing lines that should not be crossed (without going "YOU STINK" and being plain rude/actually flaggable), and I think it's fine to, erm, gently put them back in their place... Without stooping to their level, of course.

*sigh* the internet is a very weird and chaotic place... it'd honestly be boring without the variety of people that are on here, but really... sometimes I get fed up with certain people... but that's just me, I'm sure.

I understand the honesty aspect, but there are levels of honesty that may or may not be fitting. For instance, you would tell a 4 year old a different level of your honest opinion than you would a 30 year old. There should be an awareness of tact and discernment. On this site, there are many levels of what might be the right amount of 'honesty'. I'm probably not explaining this very well. Sorry.

I agree, people shouldn't be rude on here. Sometimes, though, they even aren't. People like me, can't just share their opinions on here without getting a "be nice to others" or a deleted post/thread. People automatically think that i'm being rude. It's just my honest opinion. That's the only flaw. I'm not trying to be mean, trust me.

I have had rude experinces on WI and both I and the person I was "deuling" were being kinda mean then since everyone loved her tehy turned agaisnt me and just because she didn't like me. She got banned and now a lot of people ignore me. It is kinda like school with the bullies being the rude posters and us the victims trying to help our selves. I'm all with honesty and I don't think you should say you love something if you don't but don't say you don't like the person you hate them unless you already know they hate you. I've had that experinces also in school.

I personally can't stand rude people. I've seen so many be openly rude to other users behind their backs, and it's just horrid. I think they do it for attention -_- (In fact, I've seen two users openly insulting my friend behind her back!)

Honestly, I've only seen a few rude comments that couldn't sound nicer with a smiley. I use them a lot because I'm afraid people will think I'm rude.
Thanks for making this thread, Desty, being polite may have been already discussed, but you can never have too many reminders
