I'm in total agreement with you about using proper English and spelling out words instead of text posting or whatever it's called. I'm one who put my two cents in the earlier posting about this subject.

My thought on this type of abbreviated writing is that it is not only sometimes impossible to make heads or tails as to what that person is trying to express but, I'm given no other choice but to stop my read and move on to something I can read and understand. Secondly, I believe it has become a bad habit and as such, will inevitably lead to not remembering how to spell correctly and/or write a proper sentence.

Well, once again I've put in my two cents.

I am just tired of reading letter for words and numbers for letters.

This site even makes it really easy to spell correctly...with spell Everybody makes mistakes and typos once in a while! Check. Lets do our brains a favor and exercise them this summer.
No, you didn't make it up...you're supposed to use proper grammar here on WI (a rule I forget often and should be reminded of.) I can understand a typo here and there, though. Sometimes I don't use capitals (oops) but I always try to spell things right and use punctuation.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

It's not a formal rule, but it's a guideline. I don't usually use chatspeak, but I use a little (lol, lawlz, BRB, OMG, in that general vicinity.) However, I find it very annoying and confusing to read a sentence like this: OMG, R U LOL RITE NOW? BRB, MY BFFL SENT ME A TXT. I think people should work a little harder on not using so much chat speak. A little bit is okay, but entire sentences of chatspeak is crossing the line.

I have to agree, It oes get kind of annoying seeing posts like

"hey wassup how r u 2day? did nethin interestin happen 2 u??"

But we cant police the way people type, there are a TON of members that do that, and it would be way too much of a hassle to do so. . .

What if Webkinz Insider had a mandatory spellcheck that went checked your post to see if any words were misspelled?

I don't think it is neccesary to have a rule that says NOT TO talk in chat speak. But I think that if nobody can understand it, then I wouldn't allow that post.

I understand. They do it so in case you use chat speak everyone can understand, and they don't mistake it for a unacceptable word. It is kind of a creepy idea to have a mandatory spell check, though. Beacause you MIGHT just get your self kicked of this site for misspelling and type a unacceptable word. I love chat speaking, but if it is a rule (guideline) not to do it, then I better clean it up!
